Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is Cro-Mo crap? I inherited an old one that I was going to clean up and rebuild but am wondering if it's worth it. It needs new tires, tubes, tape, pads, seat, cables and housing and a general tune up. Will probably spend $300 total if I have my LBS do the work or around $200 if I do it and get all the stuff on sale. What do you think?

Sometimes older frames are Cro-Mo main tubes, with high-ten stays, and those are pretty crappy. If your bike is 100% Cro-Mo, then it's just basic 4130 steel, no different than a Surly, or any number of other steel frames. It's light, lasts a long time, and offers a solid ride, and was free! What kind of frame is it, anyway?

I only have one now, since I sold my peugeot but I'll post both of them up here.

This is the peugeot I sold. It's an '85 PH-501 which was a few sizes too big for me.

This is the replacement, an '84 Trek 760 with a suntour superbe drivetrain. The RD was swapped out to a shimano 600 by someone before I bought it. I'm not sure why, but the 531 trek in a smaller frame size is heavier than the 501 peugeot in a much larger size. Do the lugs actually add that much weight? I was just surprised at the difference. The Trek is getting an overhaul, better pictures will follow at some point

Nice bikes. Also they don't make Ultegra as they used to.

Miyata 610 and a Miyata 1000. Riding the 610 while I restore the 1000. Anyone deeply offended that I am making an Orange Miyata 1000....

I'll add mine to the club...

2001 LeMond Zurich, my normal ride... The photo needs to be updated though because it sports an Ultegra SL compact crank now.

My cruiser... 2006 Redline 9*2*5

I have a '98 LeMond Reno too but no pics...

Updated picture of the Trek 660 after a trip to the powder coater. I'm not sure if I'll try to restore the decals or leave it "stealth."
