A recent acquisition via our wonderful thread Bay / CraigsList finds - "Are you looking for one of these!?" Part II, I lucked out and got this:

To celebrate this auspicious occasion, I will be laboring (with love, of course) on this beauty in my backyard under the newly green maple tree.

A couple of almosts. Rode my Mooney yesterday n honor of the real Memorial Day and my dad's birthday. So one day before 5/31 and on a bike that is probably mostly 531 but in the time it was built, Peter Mooney would only go all 531 and sticker it if you paid an additional (I recall) $50. His reasoning - you paid to take from him his ability to choose the best tubing for your bike. So my Mooney is probably mostly 531 but I really don't know. (It is a much stiffer bike than my certified 531 Raleigh Competition. Like a sturdy Portland IPA vs a Coors.)

So that "almost" ride - an easy fix gear spin. 30 mile loop around rush hour but timed so traffic was never bad on a beautiful, cool-ish sunny early summer evening. Moon rising early at about 7/8s full. Pure recovery ride. And on a great bike. Wonderful. (28c tubulars with 88 psi rear, 82 front. GP4s. Sublime.)

I'm in the process of stripping this one down for repainting.

Ugly build for test riding

It's bare metal now, just going through final sanding, so I'll have Reynolds 531 all over my hands today.

My fully double-butted Raleigh Professional Mk IV lost its decals over four decades ago (the original paint was trashed when it came into my possession). And it's a pity I'm too busy today to give it a decent ride in honor of 5/31.

Are there places where one could get replacement 531 decals?

Rode my MKM today. It's my only bike, but I don't feel sorry for myself - I really enjoy riding it. It replaced an Atala Competezione with a 531 Frame Tubes decal, and I would have been happy with that forever, but it was stolen on Labor Day, 1981.

Did Wes Mason put is name on bikes before, after, or during MKM's existence?

My International is perpetually between builds, so I had to celebrate with three, lousy main tubes.

You should sell your bike to someone who respects it.
