Brev Stop?
Has anyone previously heard of this brand? I need a 126mm skewer, but I like to know I'm riding on quality:

I'll defer to those with more knowledge of Italian components, but I wouldn't be shocked if the other side of the QR handle reads "Campagnolo".

back in the sixties and early seventies if an Italian cycle did not have Campag hubs the skewers would be either Gnutti or Brev Stop
have never known a maker for them
AFAIK name appears on no other products
iab is sure to have more and better information for us

agreed it's second (or even third) tier Italian, appearance looks very close to early Miche which also got rebranded as "Cycle Gear" (or something like that) for US market.

I am not impressed by the finish of the drive-side locking nut. I might keep looking.

gnurling appears it may have been munged by someone going at it with pump pliers
have observed more than one generation of these
do not know years of production
they seem to disappear somewhere in the mid-1970's

FWIW: Sunlite makes both chromed and black steel skewer nuts that are stylistically a decent match for many C&V skewers. Here's a photo, from an eBay listing.

Photo doesn't show the dropout side, but it it knurled - not quite as sharply as some, but IMO well enough to grip. (I own 2 pair of these, so I checked one to make sure.) Mine are the chromed variety; they seem to be fairly well-built and finished.
They're available from multiple vendors on eBay for quite a reasonable price: about $8/pair plus sales tax, shipped, to US addresses.
Not a perfect solution, but workable if you need a set of skewer nuts of that style and can't immediately find the exact ones needed to match an existing skewer or set.
