How about a lowly '79 Super Mirage? Bought it for 60.00 and traded it last summer for the '80 Centurion Elite that fit a little better. Here is a shot of the headbadge:

IMHO, the Motobecane designers had a very sublime sense of graphic design and paint color combinations. I think they are one of the prettiest bikes available.

My 1978 (I think - could be wrong; Vitus, first gen Cyclone) Grand Jubile
Was my dad's since new, I've had it for 8 years now. First time out with it this year. One of my favorite riding bikes I've ever had.
It's in dire need of some Paselas and I really need to get around to finding a suitable frame pump for it this year.

my '80 grand jubilé fits me as well as any bike i've ever ridden. it's the bike of choice for epic rides. it came to me without a fork and only the cockpit and brakeset.
i've made my '76 grand record into my grocery getter. i always bring it into the shops with me. people like it. it makes any room or space more attractive.

The black and red combo is one of my favorites. As noted previously, Moto's colors and graphics were the epitome of style and grace.

Thanks. I just cleaned the frame up today with goo gone (followed by a good soapy bath), and she's shining!
I've looked all over the netz, and I think I've seen two pictures of this paint color on a mixte.
I touched up the inevitable dings with fingernail polish. I hope that's not sacrilegious!

I just found it listed in a c.1975 UK Motobecane catalog. Sure enough, it looks to be the top model--and they have no 'Team Champion.'
Interestingly there is some overlap with US model designations (Mirage, Nomad) but mostly the bikes are given alphanumeric designations. This corresponds with the French models, as seen in this 1978 French catalog. In that one, it's only the upper level touring and racing models that have names, but there is no Super Champion, or Team Champion, Le Champion, Grand Record, etc.
My guess is that those familiar top model Motos were for export only and differed from what was available in France. In fact the UK and US models are evidently not the same either.

1984 Jubilee Sport - Restoration has started! Brooks seat and new rubber. I had one brand new back in the day. Fast! Light! Beautiful in Palomino!
