I feel you OP, a ride that I want to do is a whopping $150 and includes a jersey that I don't want. If possible I would ride with a group of respected experienced riders with some clout, so nobody says anything. I think im gonna ride with one of the local racing teams that have riders I'm friends with and be sure to take good pulls.

im not gonna argue with anyone, just think OP would be best off sticking to the fast pacelines that won't be stopping at rest stops.

In that case, your buddies ‘won’t know you’ because they’ll get tossed, too.
Organized, paid entry means it’s a private event, and no amount of justification entitles you to take a start line you didn’t sign up for, just because you “want to do it and people like you”

I personally would never consider participating in a group ride without paying. Just would not feel right.

Thank you. I recently made a similar comment addressing the creeping on women and advocacy of sketchy riding. I was told that I'm the only BF member who has a problem with this guy's behavior. I suggest others who see this as inappropriate leave feedback with the mods.

Had a woman roll up on me two weeks ago who said she thought I was awesome and inspirational to the next generation of riders. I do have a reputation but "creep" is not one that I want. I'm friendly to everyone and not a nuisance

Let's try to stay back on topic please. This is gonna devolve into name-calling and personal attacks very quickly.
If two or more users wish to discuss things regarding themselves that don't pertain to the O/P, please take it up over PM and leave the thread.
Many Thanks -

Pretty much, all to he women I see riding while I am, pass me. Last Fall, one of them had an AK amp, and she was riding ~30 mm tires on the GAP.

I saw him while riding to the stage finish at the Bianchi factory during the ‘95 Giro. He was sitting out the race due to injury so he’d be good for the TdF. He came spinning by in the opposite direction. He was riding for Carrera with Chiapucci. He had his team kit on, including those fake denim shorts. Quite a thrill.

If there is an organized event going on you should either pay to be a part of it or ride somewhere else despite being on public roads. Look, you can always ride the same exact route of the event on a different day and just do it self supported. You can probably even download the route and cue sheet to your phone from the event website if you need to. The point is, if you didn't pay, stay away.
