yet another freehub noise thread (Dura Ace 7800)
My Dura Ace 7800 freehub was built into a wheelset about 5,000 miles ago. The clicks are distinct and I have never oiled it. I have noticed more of a hard pawl engagement slamming type noise when standing to climb in the lower gears. I'm not sure if my cassette is moving slightly under my 200 pound weight or if it is internal in the freehub.
I will recheck that the lock ring is torqued to 40n/m. Is it OK to go a bit beyond 40n/m?
Also, I guess I will drizzle some heavy weight oil into the groove by the freehub dust cap to see if I can quiet the engagement during my out of saddle climbs?
Thanks for any help with this.

The slamming noise or big pop you are hearing when you bear down and put out your massive amount of wattage might just be the chain.
Especially if this is in some of the smaller cogs on the back. Putting more strain on the chain might cause the chain to shift the position it is sitting between the teeth of the cog.
