Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was really expecting the shoes at this link to be hot pink. Great shoes, but I'm disappointed by the color selections ;-)

I think people are confusing hot pink with stylish high-viz pink.

So far this thread has been fun and games but apparently DeFeet is serious about light weight and aero socks.

https://bikerumor.com/2019/07/09/def...ing-sock-ever/

Check out the link in the article that talks about the 'Golden Orb Spider Silk Socks'. Unfortunately the spider silk socks are no longer on their site. l always wanted socks that cost $5,000...anything to save 8 watts.

Those DeFeet socks are legit. I know one of the guys working on the aero testing on them. And socks really can shave time in a TT or on the track. If you're going for marginal gains, socks are on the list.

8 watts for socks, seriously? Is there a rule that they have to stop at mid-calf, because you could get 10 if they were longer.

Cut the toes out, slide onto your arms and get 16 watts.

Good. I really don't need to see Wiggins in the 2020 Tour, climbing the Tourmalet in a pair of these.

Yeah, I don't need to see the guy that's been retired for a couple years wearing those in the 2020 Tour, either.

Just wear stockings if it's that critical.

It's always the same. I'm cruising around at an ok speed, a group of two blows past me like I'm going backwards. The older one that doesn't look as fit is wearing hot pink socks. It's not the same guy each time. By older, I probably mean my age, I keep forgetting that I have birthdays too.

If I give chase and draft, they spend the rest of our time together pointing at every inconsistency in the road greater than 1mm. Usually within a few minutes they turn off some other road that doesn't make alot of sense to ride on.

I'm left all alone with nothing but questions.
This is precisely why I no longer do group rides in the US. All that pointing, and shouting. Some of us just like to ride in peace.

86 years. Please, stick to facts. And it's not the team that's insufferable, it's us fans. However, if you really want sheer torture, talk to me about the Patriots.

You are correct, they do regulate sock length. But think about it, why do they regulate the max length, not the min? Because longer socks = more speed. No need to regulate slow things, only things that might represent an unfair advantage. But we're not limited by rules on our weekend drope the hamer rides, so we should be going as high as we can.

Sounds totally logical to me. But at what point do the socks become leg warmers? Does the UCI regulate leg warmers? I think I have used my Super Jeenyus to find a flaw in their rules.

There's some ladies world tour riders I'd be perfectly OK with wearing those. But then again, I think the UCI also requires you to wear some kind of kit and not be naked.
