1990 Bianchi Axis

Hello - new the forum and just started collecting old steel bikes. Picked up this 1990 Bianchi Axis today, this bike is as close to new you could find - rode it 15 miles today. I paid $100 and plan to keep it as a gravel bike, but curious what it might be worth?

Uh uh. Not opening a zip file as it's too risky by far of getting a virus.

Cheers

Sorry about that. Every time I try to remove them, they show back up. But I finally figured out how to upload pics.

That is a very good bike, looks great, and it was a deal at $100.

You will want to fix the tape.

The stem shifters are so so. If you're happy with them, that's fine. Personally I'd get a set of friction bar end shifters or go with brifters but then you need to figure out how to make that index with your bike which may be complicated. Friction is easier and that's what you are running now.

These will look and function better than the stem shifters:

The seatpost is very high. Make sure you have enough of the seatpost in the frame so as not to damage it. The rule of thumb is 2 inches min. but with that much seatpost showing, I would like more than the minimum insertion.

I can move this to valuations, but I think you just established that it is worth $100

if you could remove the zip files, I would appreciate it. Apparently I did that before I had 10 posts.
it’s worth every penny of the $100 to me!

Thank you.

As stated your $100 buy in is the current going price . I've seen people ask crazy amounts for these.

Vrtually unused or not it very likely needs a real good overhaul to get some good fresh grease into the bearings.

The stem is definitely too high and could be dangerous like that. Look for the "MAX HEIGHT" or "MIN INSERT" mark and make sure that is below the locknut on the stem.

These came with Suntour's unique "Command Shifters" mounted near the brake lever. Personally I'd get a pair of barend shifters to replace those stem shifters.

These were the model above the Volpe

thanks all, stem height has been adjusted. it was well past max - good eye. . rear wheel seems to be a little woblly, going to need to learn how to do that as well as regrease everything. So much to learn! In the meantime, headed out to find the next bargain
