This is pure awesomeness, and I'm sure Chapman (this really fit here congrats!) would have been happy to ride it.

Looking at the Moser La Horas again, (which could never be praised enough) here's a bunch of the little brother as well, just to make sure we don't forget about them. Like with Cinelli there's life beyond Laser, Moser also had some other nice (even if they are a bit closer to Earth) bikes as well..

They came in other colors a well, but the blue-white faded is the more common (and the best in my opinion, but that's a matter of taste).

The Wheel on the XB3 is a Cortes, I did some loose search efforts on them after I saw it first on Pedalroom, but gave up after a few minutes. Its odd the it is always shown on Ex-Soviet bikes (can be that the same gal/guy rides it on different bikes) maybe its Russian.

UPDATE (googled again): according to a Reedit thread, "Internationally acclaimed USSR bike maker Petrov Vidori hired a Swiss wheel designer by the name of Marti Gadient, they were both commissioned to create a bike and wheelset that would be primarily superior aerodynamically to other countries track team's bikes. Marti was approached by the US and they tried to discourage him from working with Russians at the time because it would hurt America's image, Marti was enraged and insisted that they never attempt to contact him again, as he saw what he was doing as purely track bike influenced, not political. However, Marti was openly pro communist, so the US viewed it as helping the Communist party, and not so much driven because of the sportsmanship aspect. Having to initially travel to Russia to transport the materials needed to engineer and fabricate the wheels, the train shipping the materials was sabotaged by pro-west forces, Marti had suspected the US in attempting to sabotage the train in order to stall and prevent the project from being finished, but Marti and Petrov remained hopeful, and eventually (covertly) transported all of the materials to Moscow, where they developed the wheel Ivan Vedeneyev Oculi, or "IVO". It was named after the late TT cyclist who broke the world record in a time Trial race.. The design was influenced by the look of swiss cheese. Petrov found this extremely unusual, but did not refuse the design. During the race that the IVO was debuted, around the 6th lap, all of the pro cyclists on the track using this wheel ended up dying because they all broke and killed the riders. Marti died."

So it's not only visually but literally a Killer (if we can believe the story), but I'd still love to have it, e.g. on either (better both, don't ask why as I can't ride them here in Germany) of the below setups - or in any other form:

Where did these ads run? Were they like the old tool calendars with pinup art and given to mechanics that were largely male at the time? Or, were these run in trade magazines?

My guess that the one posted by me is a recently issued poster. They are kind of like the pinup calendars until one sees the old Rossin ads...

I might be dumb but cant it be an aero feature so air can pass through under the rider without generating drag? Normally the tip of the seat would push most of the air up to the rider who is then acting as a sail... rest goes directly to the seatpost but while leaving the edge of the seat theres already pkenty of drag. (what did i just write??? pff must be tired sorry) The shape of the seat might even create some venturi effect although i really have no idea if that matters at such speeds and so low weight. Is anyone sharing the idea? Or better if the gurus of the Italian Uni also read, welcome to comment,

If I were boss and walked into the room where this thing was being built, likely would show the designer the exit door.

Hi, I am the owner of this bike. You have to bear in mind people build bikes how they want, not necessarily to be period correct, so Don’t be fooled by the decals, the previous owner put those on, along with the groupset etc. The bike was built in 1985, as confirmed by Geoff Scott. He built 5 of the frames, for some of New Zealand’s best cyclists at the time, Who were part of the Southern districts cycling club. Members of this team won the national teams time trial championship 9 years in a row.

The Swiss cheese reference is fitting and I am wishing I had some pumpernickel right now to go with mine.
While it was interesting to read the story (as its really like a spy novel and to finally find some info on the wheel) i also got a bad pppfff no way taste on the not so happy end. I have never heard of olympic teams dying by testing a new wheel. If it happened it would have had a huge media attention even back then. Or if not that, then the punishment the engineers got from the state for the failure. In SU people were most likely killed/tortured/whatevered for smaller things than what this sounds. But i'll try to educate myself on this also because its interesting if fake or not plus im still curious about the wheel itself.

Takhion TT bike on ebay

I'm still not qualified for posting links on bikeforum, but do yourself the favor of searching ebay for "Takhion Super Sport time trial pursuit". I would love to own that one, much more than the track version!

I guess most of us here might share your feelings. I would also love to have this especially since in Germany 2 independent brakes are a must by law. Anyway I would not kick any of these out from my wall. We had a Takhion day a few pages back if you are interested

It's not as flashy as many, but I was attracted to this frame. I picked it up near the end of last year. I think I will swap the saddle and maybe the bars. I really like the high flange Suntour Sprint hubs, but not sure about the rims.

This was never meant to be a production bike, but was an exercise in seeing how much more aero a bike could be made without the big rotating wheel up front remember this was also the company that gave us the lefty front forks )

It was almost unrideable and the only person to ever go more than a few meters -and actually steer- was a champion trials stud Libor Koras.

For whatever it is worth, it is incredible well made. Super high tolerances. All 4 front wheels steer and have little hydaulic drum brakes. Very cool engineering and construction of a very bad idea.
