When do bikes get refreshed?

Planning on buying a new bike in the coming months or next year. However, was just wondering when new bike models come out? Do the new 2021 bikes come out before 2021 or actually in 2021?

Most brands have so many models that they can't release new model year bikes at the same time so they come out all during the year. Some brands don't even have 'model years' anymore. Trek, for example, will release new road race bike(s) at the same time as the TdF...except for this year.

The release bikes from January to December depending on brand usually the year before but sometimes that year or are rolling changes.

When there is a cure for COVID-19 that is reliable, viable and easy access for all maybe just maybe we might get back to the new normal. When that is nobody can give a proper answer. We can all speculate but accuracy is out the bloody window. Maybe now that Donny has COVID there is a slight chance he might take this global pandemic with some tiny iota of seriousness but who knows?

Hopefully demand will stay high for a long time after COVID. Hopefully people take cycling more seriously and it won't be a 70s bike boom, "gas is cheap again let's go a guzzlin'" but who knows? Nobody can really predict what is going to happen.

At least one does. I don't see how model years matter anymore. It's either the current one or the old one.

It's catywumpus right now. I'm working part time for a bike shop prepping 2021 bikes for sale. I assume that some time early next year, I will be prepping what would have been 2022 bikes for sale.

I'm not sure there are going to be any big upgrades to bikes given the disruption we have seen. Has any component manufacturer other than Campagnolo come out with anything new recently?

I wish to buy a new gravel bike. But even the entry level models have their prices gone up quite a bit that I can't afford them anymore. I can wait for their prices to go down when supply vs demand goes back to normal.
Prices won’t go down unless retailers discount them and frankly I don’t see that happening. Given the prices for off the rack bikes with totally average in-house components, custom bikes are becoming a better long-term value.

Currently they are trying but alas with all the shutdowns and issues globally it has been tough. I don't think they are planning any price jacks.

E-bikes are a growing segment of the industry. Regular bikes have generally been rather stagnant over the years e-bikes are going up in popularity. There are still people stuck in the past on them but a lot more people are coming around. Usually it is those who haven't actually ridden one of quality and just see the junk. I see a lot of junk but I have ridden a good deal of quality ones and the arguments against them really don't hold water.

A motorcycle however is a different thing and industry entirely.

I got a 30% discount on my first proper bike because it was last years models and the stickers were different.

But generally, yeah, there's usually some improvements with new models. My latest one (Carrera Zelos) got disc brakes in the 2020 model, updated geometry, etc. For most bikes with yearly updates it's probably not such a big deal.

I bought a 2021 Cervelo around a month ago, and the shop had several other models of 2021 Cervelos on the floor.
