Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Endurance advice needed (Wilier?)

Hello! I'm wondering if you guys could give me some advice on the price/quality difference between:
  • Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc 105 (2500 euro)
  • Canyon Endurace CF SL Disc 7.0 105 (2000 euro)
  • Wilier GTR Team Disc 105 (2250 euro)

Wilier might be the less obvious choice, but it appeals to me the most. Would it be a good choice?

Many thanks!

Assuming that you've done your homework on sizing and geometry, I don't think that you could go wrong with any of them - none of this stuff sucks.

I had a 2016 Wilier GTR SL - and it was the bomb. I sold it last year and replaced it with the Cento1NDR. The GTR SL (similar or same geometry to current GTR I believe) was supremely comfy and quick, easy for me to spend all day on it. I wanted disc brakes however, and as I mulled that over decided to try a more racy endurance geometry. I love what I have now, but there are days when I do miss the GTR SL. It was just one of those bikes I really connected with. Wilier makes great frames, if you can dial in fit and components you can't go wrong.

And Wilier's are fun because you don't see as many out on the road, at least here in the States.

I had a 2015 Specialized Roubaix - great bike. The newer ones are nice (granted they come with future shock) - but do have a threaded bottom bracket. Maybe test ride one if you can!

Wilier bikes have a long and proud history and heritage, fine bikes indeed! I own one, highly recommended.

Purchase the bike you would be proud to own. I always say one bike always stands out even by a little and that is the one you buy.

As Whyfi says, they are all excellent bikes.

Stands out a little? Then get the Cento 10NDR with R7 Ramato paint scheme for a measly 1,500 Euro upcharge.

Thank you all for your advice! Just a quick update: I finally went for the Wilier Cento1NDR Ultegra, it arrived yesterday! Unfortunately I cannot add a photo... :-)

I love my Canyon. I have AL 6.0, but know 2 people who have the 7.0. They also love it.

For my money, I would get the CF 8.0 model, as it's 1kg lighter and it has Ultegra....

I think I'm close to pulling the trigger on one. Holding back because the stack height is a little lower than I'm at now.

their steel frames yes, their carbon frames are just the run of the mill Chinese carbon like all other Italian brands.

Bollocks.

Yes, they use Chinese factories, like nearly all bike brands, on that you are correct. Run of the mill? Wrong.
Their bikes are not generic, they are not simply a different paint job, they are built to a design spec and quality dictated by Wilier.
The Zero6 for example is unique, it was among the lightest framesets available at launch.

Most of the top brands do the same. Just because a Chinese factory does the manufacture, doesn't mean reduced quality or design. China can produce as good a product as any other country.
