Don't ride near trees

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't ride near trees

Port Angeles – A man in his 60s was struck by a falling tree Tuesday as he rode his bicycle inside Olympic National Park. His injuries, described by a paramedic as traumatic, were severe enough that rescuers decided the best course of action was to call in a Life Flight helicopter rather than try to move him. Photos provided by Clallam 2 Fire Rescue show the man’s bike was crushed beyond repair.

It's a terrible shame what happened to that bike.

I cycle a lot, and run the risk of being hit by a truck, or being bitten by a snake. But my increased fitness level will result in a longer life if nothing like that happens. Most importantly I am having fun.

If I stopped riding near trees, I'd have to stop riding completely.

While riding the local mup once, heard a tree falling. Helluva loud cracking noise!! Stopped and looked around to make sure it wasn't headed towards me or the path. Couldn't tell where the tree fell. Sounded close, but didn't see it. Hope he recupes quickly-hurts to even think of the damage a tree could cause.

Sacramento is said to have the densest urban forest in the country. People are seriously injured or killed every by falling trees every year. It’s no joke.

Same here but fortunately for me I was on the other side but was in that spot an hour earlier. Widowmakers

Happy holidays all you 2wheelers and may all your crashes be minor. It's got to be better next year.

I wonder if this was due to deployment of the Jones Bar?

IIRC, on much of the Natchez Trace the trees were a ways back from the road. Not so great when you're wanting a sliver of shade.
