Eisentraut built for Jon Dawson co-founder of the band NRPS
I am posting a rather unique 1973 Eisentraut built for John Collins Dawson IV (June 16, 1945 – July 21, 2009), nicknamed "Marmaduke", the leader and co-founder of the country rock band the New Riders of the Purple Sage (NRPS). What is unique about this bike are the hand-cut lugs and one-of-a-kind paintjob resembling the band's album cover. Thanks for sharing! Such fine craftsmanship. Never seen a fork quite like that. I dig the unusual and striking paint design & color scheme. That stay bridge opening is so cool. Nice photography, too.

I was just listening to Brian Jonestown Massacre last night. The San Francisco music scene has such a rich history, and this is one of the (formerly) local bands that really captures it and lets it evolve. I love everything about this bike.
On another note, I'm trying to decide which color to repaint a recently acquired Eisentraut Limited that needs a strip-down and refinish, and sage green was among the eliminated choices. I may put it back on the table after seeing this one. Thanks for sharing this lovely bike.

When I first saw a seat stay bridge treatment like that I thought pretty novel.
a few months later it was in to have a crack repaired.
The cross tube is too big to be sensible.
Nice piece of history, a coffeehouse bike in my ledger.

Yes, the hollow chain stay bridge was supposedly prone to failure. Maybe that is why one does not seem to see them more often. Glad you like the bike.

I really like contrasting paint jobs like this. All too often, when using muted colors like sage, the default is black, rather than going the opposite, and getting a bright color that really pops. Love the orange.

That seat stay to seat tube as seat post clamp construction is the only I have seen with the exception of my unusual Ron Cooper.
