Help: Is this a fake Pinarello?
Hello,
I am new here so I can't post any links or photos, but maybe someone can help anyways.
I cam across a Pinarello that appears to be a Veneto Columbus frame. I was familiar with the color scheme, Purple/White, that I saw many times before.
On the second look though I noticed that all the engravings and logos were missing. None on the seat strays, non on the fork, its not even saying Pinarello beneath the thinner seat joint and no proper serial number as well.
The frame is definitely Columbus, but I was thinking: no engravings, not a real Pinarello, right? The only thing that bothers me is the paint job, that clearly looks like the original and it would be kind of peculiar to have come across a 30 year old Pinarello fake with proper patina...

@Pina Rello - My vote is no, it is not a Pinarello. The seat stay caps are not the typical ones you see and the fork crown is not either. The bottom bracket is off too.
What markings are on the drop outs?
Compare to the one I have. I am not sure mine is even a Veneto due to the braze on FD hanger.

Other than owning a few and always checking them out when I get a chance I am far from a Pinarello expert; I see nothing in the frame that says Pinarello and as said the fork screams Japanese to me. I will bet the decals look too new as well.

The seat stay caps are fairly unique, I wonder if @MauriceMoss has any ideas?

Old, nutted brakes in an '80s recessed mount always look kludged. Plus, the rear is way too long for the rim.
Even if fake, it looks like a pretty decent frame. But there's a lot of work ahead...

But did you read that number stamped on the seatpost itself or measure it with a caliper?

I suspect I am not the best detective but did the decal set for the real thing ever have the registered trademark on the down tube? I thought that was not on the original decal set. JMHO, MH

It's not a Pinarello.
It's a (late 80s-ish?) Bottecchia, likely made with Columbus Cromor tubes as that 'CRM' stamping on the bb shell indicates. Bottecchia used to stamp the tubing type on the bb shells around this time. So, whatever it is, it was their mid-range offering at the time. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the bb threading is Italian.
The fork is a replacement.
Here are some comparisons:
Full frame may have looked something like this:
The frame above was discussed a few times on BF, here, here and here.

The Cyclomondo reproduction decals on my Montello don't. The Velocals decals look like they do, but they also have one on the seat tube decal, but it doesn't look like the original decals had one there.

I would second the motion that it's a no for the Pinarello ... and yes for a Bottecchia. Definitely looks like a replacement fork. Any sign of a front-end collision or did the original owner just swap out the fork because he wanted a straight, pista-like fork because it was converted to fixed gear?
