How many bikes do you have?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1, a folding bike for 2 to 3 mile commute in the downtown.

I am planning to buy my 2nd bike, a road bike, for a longer commutes.

Seven, but I need to do n-1 and get rid of the KHS. It's got issues that require some time and money, and it's not worth it. I hardly ride it and the money would be better spent on buying a replacement, which would be a single speed for commuting. But I don't really need that either, so I'm shooting for six.

Three road bikes, one of which is a dedicated trainer bike, two gravel bikes, one of which is mostly used in winter, and a trike. I'lll use the second gravel bike as my commuter when I trash the KHS. Or I'll get a single speed.....

I'm conservative, though. Most everybody else here who rides in the winter also has a fat bike....

Main carbon road
Spare alu road
Alu road only for rain
Steel tandem all-weather

I could get by without the spare road, but it was almost a freebie and is a very good climbing bike. It's handy to have a spare. The rain bike's drivetrain is original Ultegra 9-speed with bar-ends, not as nice to ride as my other road bikes.

It's definitely handy to have a spare these days - when something breaks it can be a long while before you can source some parts.

Tell me you've got a charging system on that thing, too, for keeping your heaters going in the gloves, socks, beanie and balaclava. Minneapolis can get oh-so cold.

I do know a guy who's got electric socks, but no electric heaters for most of us. Under some conditions, many winter riders here use chemical hand or foot warmers.

There are MANY winter riders here. The way to overcome winter is to get out in it. If you've got the right gear, it can be glorious.

Used to snow ski that way. Hard days were much warmer, even in bitter cold, even with seemingly lighter togs. If we could keep up the pace.

* Was joking about the 'lectric gear, of course. Glad that y'all enjoy the wintry rides.

Joking?! I use battery powered electric socks for my winter riding! With heating elements both above and below the toes, they work great, and are both easier to use and more comfy than chemical heat packs. They’re trim enough to use inside my Northwave Celsius Arctic GTX winter cycling boots.

I currently have an F8 and and F12. My criterion for selling? If I am not riding it. My friends and wife were shocked when I sold my 76 Masi GC two years ago. I bought it in 76, loved how it rode, and it sure had memories and miles but I rode it at most once a year. Now thinking of adding a gravel. I add that the F8 is now hooked up to a Kickr.

I am itching to get a second “outdoor” road bike that has disc brakes but that would make 4. I live in an apartment and 4 bikes seems over the top.

Anyone else run into this issue?
three - main roadie (Litespeed) which get >95% of the mileage, a lightweight single-speed runabout (De Bernardi) with a rear rack, and a three-speed with fenders, front basket and rear rack (Nashbar). I use the last two for the occasional two-mile commute or light errands. Realistically, I don’t need both, but I have space, so whatever. If I bought another bike, it would be something to fit an all road/gravel/bike packing role

The two Treks seem redundant? have they got very different setups?

Yep, I will probably pass forward the 7.2 one, and also the Ironman that is a bit small for me.
Still getting the feeling for the titanium vs steel, so the Tri-A will keep around

Down to six now. My BMC is my only pure road bike and my lightest bike at 16 lbs. I do need to upgrade so I can fit 30s, and the BMC will become the trainer/backup bike and I will likely have 7. Finding an appropriate upgrade is a tough process.

Yes and this is the right idea ...
I have my stable split up at both coasts and in between (CA, TX, FL) so Im pretty much covered for most of my travels I also work on bikes (for myself) in both CA & TX and wish I had more tools and bits in FL.

I have the three noted in my profile and am happy with that number. I've been looking at gravel bikes but have a sentimental attachment to the 1989 Rock Combo as it came to me from a friend who bought it new when they came out. I ride a lot of rural gravel roads, two tracks, and the occasional bit of cross country. The Rock Combo would benefit from upgraded tires with a more aggressive tread but I have less than 1000 miles on the tires that were new when I acquired the bike. By keeping the psi down, the RC does fine although the rear end breaks loose occasionally in deep sand or gravel. I hardly ever ride the old Diamondback Ascent. I will keep it because it was my first bike when I started riding again and it cost $7.50 at a thrift store.

(2) road with STI, one carbon, one steel
(2) vintage road with downtube shifting and tubulars
(1) hardtail mtb
(1) vintage tourer
(1) endurance bike / commuter w/discs and wide tires

So, that's seven. Plus I have two track frames being shipped to me right now, one aluminum and the other steel. That'll add at least one fixed gear this year, likely the aluminum one.
