Patterson drive.
Anyone here used one or have any experience with it?
It's got a good gear ratio (1.6:1) so pretty much like replacing a triple with the spacing, but the wider spacing between high and low makes all the gears more 'usable' with less overlap. It's similar to a Schlumpf speed drive, but uses a traditional handle bar mounted shifter (I've read a bit about the Schlumpf taking time to get used to shifting).
I got a good lead on one for a steal of a price (less than half the cost of new for a unit that's been used maybe 20 rides).

Fascinating.
Interesting that this "Patterson" website contains a link to FSA (Full Speed Ahead), yet a search on that site of "Patterson" yields ... nothing.

As I nose about looking at interesting bikes for sale, I routinely come across bike that weren't cheap new and look like they haven't been ridden 2 times. Similar to signing up for a gym membership and going once or perhaps never.
There was (is?) the Truvativ (owned by SRAM) 2 speed Hammerschmidt in addition to the Schlumpf and Patterson (made by FSA),

Pretty interesting. The Patterson Drive plus a belt drive and internally geared rear hub would be pretty cool!

No experience with the Patterson, but I do with the Schlumf drive. The main differences are that the Patterson mechanism freewheels while the Schlumf does not, and the Patterson employs a shifter and cable wheras the Schlumf is shifted by tapping buttons on the spindle ends, no cable involved.
