Electric bikes taking over my city!!!

I live in Newport Beach and it seems like everyone is riding an electric bike these days.

no they are not most you have to stand and they are not designed to wait anything. hard to put panniers on them. Plus they are not as table or as safe or as comfortable and you get no exercise. Yes I own two.

Aren't the e-bike communities the upper middle class communities with a green social ethic?

Better than living in the poverty communities, where the family shares a single speed beater. And there are no bike trails.

people ride them on the bike path, motorized vehicles are prohibited, but nobody cares, cops don't seem to care, people don't care or notice the difference, only way to drop them is ride 100 miles and wait for a battery change,

Yet, if you dare ride 15mph on your bicycle down the bike path, you get bottles thrown at you, spit at, cops called on you, & dogs sicced.

There's always someone faster.

If you're jealous of their speed.. train harder or buy a e-bike.

It seem all the people that I now that ride recreational at speeds 10mph and under have no problem with e-bikes. Only the the self proclaimed "elite" cyclists seem to complain about e-bikes.

I've thought of getting an electric scooter that's street legal for running errands that I don''t want to pedal and don't need the car. I figure I can cut my fuel consumption by 30%. But i'm afraid the Harley guys making fun of me at a red light..... NOT.

You’re assuming people on electric bikes are substituting their rides for car use, which isn’t always correct. In fact, I know some people who make extra car trips to go to places to ride their e-bikes.

You ever pick one of those up?

Most people i see on e-bikes can't lift 50# and put it on a hitch rack.

I’ve seen plenty of people at one trailhead do that. Maybe it’s not a thing where you have ridden.

Possibly, the local MUP runs through on a greenbelt trail that has houses adjacent on both sides.

I'm more concerned about the people on quads on the MUP. But honestly, I usually avoid it since it can be crowded and i'm safer on the streets.

Bottom line is there will always be people that are inconsiderate and people that like to complain.

I'm more annoyed by walkers that will stop in the middle of the path to talk rather then step off. The dog walkers that have those 20' extended leashes or no leash. The people that walk 4 across and block the entire pavement. People with loud radios, that litter, that feed the geese....

That's why I ride the rode, most drivers don't want to be delayed by the police after they run you over so they give you some room

I've seen threads where people discuss strategies for solving exactly that problem

Bring a friend along so there's 2 of you.

My bike weighs 6.48kg so I can be a weakling.

I would not want one unless it made the sound of George Jettson's flying car.

do those bikes have a tracking chip?

some of those bikes go for 10 grand, look for trailside bike jacking in the near future.

if i could boost just one of those, i could get that 71 Cinelli i have been dreaming about for the last 48 years,
