The only wrenching that I've been doing is installing shelves, blinds, curtains, shower rods, assembling bar stools, and hanging televisions on the walls (3 rooms). My MIL and SIL moved into a new house here in town, and guess who gets tagged with the honey-doos? 
Well when I got home, I really went off the deep end and ordered one of these. Been waffling about it for months now. I just need it!
I looked at my list of builds, half-a-mile-long, and every one of them needs wheels. This baby wasn't cheap, but it'll ease the pain for sure!

Retrofit Radios Taillight
Several weeks ago my Radios vintage dynamo powered taillight came in the mail. Perfect to finish off my Porteur project. I had already decided to go battery powered rather than dynamo to light this bike. I had recently mounted a vintage flashlight to the front rack (which I upgraded with a bright LED bulb and some modified D cell to AA battery adapters for increased voltage). So to complement that, I wanted to gut the incandescent innards and convert the taillight to LED/battery power. Made a couple of time-consuming attempts to fabricate and fit an ad-hoc circuitboard, blinky switch and batteries into the case. Functioned, but just could get it small enough. For the third attempt I just took the LED internal unit from a spare Planet Bike SPOK taillight, mounted it inside and fabricated a button in the aluminum case. Done! So the result gives the true vintage aesthetic the Radios taillight, but the benefits of LED.

I really wanted a Phil Wood spoke machine, but they are TWICE the price! 
Now I need someone to tell me what sizes of double-butted spoke blanks I need to stock. Straight gauge is a no-brainer, but surely I would want to make sure that I have enough "butt" left on the threaded end. Any thoughts on that?

How's about a tubing stamp? Thought it was pretty cool that these are visible from under the paint, at pretty much the same location on the top and down tubes.

Here’s a recable, retape, + new Zeus hoods and green shifter covers for a good Basque built ride. Seems more 70s, as appropriate. White cork tape was wrong, so 80s/90s. And only exposes the functional but butchered non-aero AMEs.
No mechanical improvements over the previous upgrade to center pull brakes, but less brash and more visually pleasing to me.

edit: O.M.G!!! Sometimes I HATE re-cabling center-pull brakes.

Yeah! Now take all them parts off and get a can of clear coat, and finish the job! You've put in all this time to make it look original. I don't want it to get scratched off unexpectedly because it wasn't sealed up. Smiles, MH

A few weeks ago mrs non-fixie was making noises that sounded to me like "yes, I would like a real high end vintage racing machine with drop bars and full Campagnolo Nuovo Record to take to L'Eroica in 2021".
I remembered buying a slightly battered hand-built Jan de Reus ten years ago that might be just the ticket, so I hauled it down from the rafters this week to have a look. Over the years it has been stripped of most of its parts for other projects. Only the brakes, an old bottle cage and what looks like a 105 headset remain.
Size is spot-on, and I might just have the right parts left in the bin to complete it to something that looks legit and she can actually ride.
