FS: 1977-78 Colnago Super Fork 172mm Steerer

1977-78 Colnago Super fork, 172mm steerer length, 55mm rake. Should fit a 54cm to 56cm size frame. Good rideable condition with light scratches, no rust. $50.00 Plus Shipping. PayPal Friends & Family ONLY

From Velo-Retro Colnago Timeline Velo-Retro: Colnago Super Timeline

1977 - Fork crown with shallow triangles cut into back (no recessed brake bolt)

1978 - Fork crown for recessed brake bolt with shallow triangles cut into back

Someone drilled out the fork crown for a recessed nut so it's probably a 1977 fork.

Truth in advertising time... I bought this on eBay from a fixie hipster in the UK back in 2006. It was supposed to be "perfect"!!! I ended getting a substantial refund and took it to Ed Litton for him to check it out including the alignment which was good. We came to the conclusion that a stem got stuck in the steerer and some hammersmith tried to free it up by pounding on the outside????

Later I discovered that there were some ridges inside the top of the steerer from a defective reamer or boring tool at the Columbus factory. They probably caused the frozen stem. I re-reamed the inside and honed it so a 22.2mm stem fits perfectly.

The dings on the steerer look much worse in these pictures than they are but I didn't want anyone to feel misled. If anything, the hammering strengthened the 4130 steel that Columbus used - cold forging! Also, someone can have a frame builder weld on a new steerer top end.

The light scratching in the chrome also looks much worse... It passes the 5 foot test - see first 2 pictures. I just sold my Super that I was going to use this on. It had a rusty fork and I never got around to changing it.

For $50 bucks, it's cheap at twice the price!!! If it hasn't sold by next Saturday June 4th, I'll have it at the Marin Museum of Bicycling Swap in Fairfax, CA.

Thanks for looking....

This is tempting just to say "I own a Colnago", and hang it on display...haha

Great deal and very tempting just to have in the stash for future use! I’m going to page horatio on this one in case he’s looking to spruce up the fork on his Super.
