Just as an fyi, Gaslo plugs came in different sizes for different diameter bars. You may have a mismatch.

The Cinelli and Benotto et al caps are great, but won't work with a top down wrap.
Something like the Milremo or Reg plugs that iab posted would be ideal.
I find the champagne corks a bit clunky. Regular wine corks can be tapped flush, and removed with a corkscrew. Obviously cheap and easy; I have no idea whether or not folks used them bitd.

You are correct. Plugs were sold separately. As I recall, the Velox came on a card with multiple pairs, all in the same color. If the LBS got a card of plugs in in a undesirable color, you had to put off buying new plugs until something decent came in.

I'm never correct period or otherwise and most of my bars have barcons but.... Wine corks work for me. Cheap ones at that.

I happen to like the plugs that came on Schwinn Varsitys. They had crow-foot type legs. They went in when you wanted them to, they didn't fall out, and they came out when you wanted them to.

My Dawes Double Blue came to me with the original Dawes branded plugs. I thought I should probably secure them in some way, but never did, and still have not lost them. Like the bike itself, they're about 55 years old, which I think is pretty good.

Only one of the plugs have survived on my 72 Dawes. Be nice to find a twin for it. Interestingly, it has "Bulb holder inside" molded into it under the Dawes logo. Sure enough, a small lamp bulb fits neatly into the hollow inside.
