De Rosa Signature

Does anyone know when this De Rosa dates from?

Thanks.

I have no idea, but judging by the fork crown & rear dropouts, I'd say late '80s.

+1 on late 80's/early 90's Fork crowns as we knew it pretty much dissapeared at this time. Personally, I like "stronger looking shoulders" on a fork crown.

I had a friend who had a De Rosa signature, but the color was very different. I don't know if they made them in different color schemes, but his was silver....almost looked like titanium. It was a 1987 as I recall.

I read somewhere that 1988 was the 35th anniversary and they brought out an 'anniversary signature' model for that (possibly the silver one), but that they had already had a signature model from the year before - I was wondering if this was it.

I agree on the shoulders - the overall effect is a little bland... almost too understated and tasteful - makes it look a little less vintage than it possibly is.

I thought...and could be wrong....that the Signature model was 1987 and the Anniversary model was 1988. I have panto'd delta brakes from an anniversary model and the brakes are 88'.

That's what I was getting at - if we're right, this one is the Signature, from 1987.

There aren't many De Rosas I look at and think...what were they thinking...but this is one. De Rosa or not, that's one unattractive bike.

I don't know much about De Rosas specifically, but that's probably not the original fork. At least I hope it isn't.

That is most likely a carbon fork. I like the mix of grey and blue. Also looks like a 1 1/8 steerer wich would make this more modern than vintage . If it's the case it's at least from 2000

Guys, email the seller. Ask them the questions.

Include a pic or description in your email note.

They'll get back to you quickly.

I've asked the seller (he's supplying my Colnago forks), but just in case he comes back and says "either 1987 or 1988" I thought maybe someone here would know for sure.

I must admit I'm not sure if I like this frame or not (certainly don't like the forks, but they are not carbon btw)... it's kind of too modern looking for the vintage. Maybe it's the forks that throw the overall appearance?

Morning Monkey Face,

I also emailed De Rosa directly.

I'll let you know what I hear.

When I emailed the seller previously about a frame, they were very specific. Let's see what they say. I am not familiar with it, but that's not surprising.

Cheers,
Gomango

My gut feeling is that its a repaint. Manufacturers didnt tend to paint the FD braze-on. IMHO the fork isnt original either, its steerer tube is too long. Its looks like it needs a 100mm stack height headset. I could be wrong.

Okay. The seller says he's not sure about the original date, but that it IS a re-spray. I've decided it's not for me, but thanks for all your help.
