I've used ultra fine tip paint pens a few times and was really pleased with the results. One was all chrome and on the first try the adhesion of the paint was poor. From the internet I found Elmers ProBond Advanced which drys perfectly clear. I applied a base coat of the Probond about the lugs with a fine paint brush, lined the lined the lugs with the paint pen, and then applied a top coat with the ProBond.

This was done with a Sharpie brand oil based fine tipped paint pen. IIRC, I cut the tip with an X-Acto knife to make it narrower...

Maybe I’ve been spending too much time on the thread with that Huffy with Campy gear installed…

IME, a new can doesn't need thinning. I had the can at room temperature. Three coats of primer, three coats of color, waiting a week before sanding after each coat. The waiting at least a week between coats is key. It held up really well for two years of commuting. The picture with the Bontrager bar tape was from my for sale pics. I miss that bike. At the time, my wife was still counting bikes

I’m convinced that if we don’t wait for each thin coat to completely dry before adding the next coat, it may never get dry and hard when the layers pile up and seal the soft paint below. I read something to that effect on Randy’s old 10 speed site. So I painted on the weekend and brought the frame and fork inside during the week. It was winter so I put it over the heater vent and if it was sunny, I put it in the car. Each coat sands better after a week of drying also.
