The Adventure begins
Up at 6am for a flight from Portland to Oakland, other are flying in from Boston, New York, and Virginia. Some are driving down to the Bay Area from the PNW, others are conveniently located there already.
First goal: get everyone to the church on time.
10 day weather forecast is looking good!

Day 1 in the bag
Quick update from the road

The gang starting from Berkeley took BART then Caltrain to Redwood City

Everyone in this picture left Redwood City to write up Kings Mountain Road. This is one of the classic lines on the SF Peninsula.

After a lot of climbing over the coastal range, we headed south over some familiar roads

we stopped in Pescadero for a late lunch/snack

Our destination tonight – the Costanoa Glamping tent resort
By the time we crossed over the coastal range, it became very windy! Luckily, we had one of those miracle wind days where it was almost exactly at our backs all the way down the coast. A fantastic dinner was had at the Cascade restaurant in Costanoa.
Tomorrow’s destination – Pacific Grove. 80 miles, mostly flat, hopefully more when did our backs.

Day 1 ended at the Costanoa glampimg tents. Did I mention it was windy? The noise kept many up until it died down in the middle of the night.

Day 2 Costanoa to Pacific Grove
No pics from me this day, hopefully my fellow Touroici will post some from the road.
With the wind at our backs and nearly 80 miles to ride, we got up early and did a quck 15 miles to our breakfast stop in Davenport, a small hamlet on the coast outside of Santa Cruz. After filling our bellies it was onward to Santa Cruz where a split tire was replaced at an LBS, some rack and fender adjustments were made.
Soon we were hoping back and forth over the local freeway section of Hw 1. It was hillier than I remembered, keeping the group together meant several stops to regroup. Once we got out of the suburban sprawl and started seeing fields of artichokes, brussels sprouts and strawberries that the area is famous for we started making good time again.
Roads that were impassable just a few weeks ago were now rideable. We did see a lot of fields that were drowned and wiped out temporarily from the historically big rains that passed through this year.
We picked up a harbor pilot in Moss Landing, a local professional photographer named Patrick that provided the service for some of us 2 years ago. This was an immense help, as some of the bike paths were covered with sand. He knew alternative routes without needing a map.
We eventually made it to the Asilomar Lodge where we bunked 4 to a room for the night.

I don't know. I figure that collapsed pavement is still giving them as much space as many cars do.

Lovely pics! Hard to believe your luck, central california has had continual rain for months until now
Don't mean to derail the thread, but is that front rack a nitto m18 rack? I've been thinking about grabbing one for a road bike of mine. If it is a nitto, how do you like it?

Day 4 today was from King City to Paso Robles, about 60 miles total. The cumulative miles over the last four days caught up with me, so I was very glad to roll into our digs for the night. Beautiful sunny day, light winds, and a route that largely paralleled highway 101 through the Salinas Valley and included a couple of segments riding on the highway shoulder. That was interesting. We were all grateful for the sag support from @rccardr.
The groupetto heading through the Salinas Valley:

Seemed like a good place to stop.

gugie It looks good, and it seems like it can hold a good bit of weight combined with a decaleur. Would you guess somewhere around 10 lbs?

We made it!

Bob and Bob performing their civic duty.

Hugh loving the playground like backyard at the Palazzo
Short ride today, 28 miles of neandering, rolling hills east of Paso Robles and Atascadero. We picked up a few riders as well.
Tired and a bit sunburned (it’s been mostly sunny during our trip) it was time to do a week’s worth of laundry, pick up groceries and pizza, shower and rest.

A few random pics:
We often did a lot of chit-chatting, this time before steeling ourselves to ride on the shoulder of highway 101:

Today was only 28 miles, but it did include one a$$-kicking hill. Here’s Jamie cruising up:

And John and Bob M.

And Dave and Ben:

Final day of riding, seventh in a row: 40 miles with 2800 ft of climbing through beautiful rolling hills and vineyards. Finally warm enough for me to wear shorts and no arm warmers!
Those who have ridden CA Eroica might recognize this road sign:

@gugie, @davester, and Andy take a break.

Bob conquers the hill.

As does @bikingshearer.

And the mighty Thor.

I’m not home yet but at a way station on my way back with some time to post. Just had my bike delivered to me curbside by bikingshearer at my way station in the East bay. Thanks Rich!
Our great luck with weather was reinforced today as I noticed flags blowing opposite direction from a few days ago, meaning we would have had stiff headwinds through the Salinas Valley on the way in. Score!
A few shots from the week that was:

Warm up climb leaving Redwood City

Big climb up I believe, Kings Rd leaving Woodside.

The group works its way up Stage Road climb. Taken from the washed portion in earlier pics.

Blustery home stretch Day 2 in Pacific Grove

Hive mind attacks a tire replacement in Santa Cruz

A few more:

17 Mile Drive in Carmel

Carmel Valley

Resting before final summit attempt on Carmel Valley Road

Oil fields near King City. I actually found this kind of cool but now the box is checked, I’m good.

Picnic alongside 101 freeway.

Gugie has story lock on with swimmermike. Mike is still smiling because he doesn’t know how long the story will be. And that there will be another one after that.

Gugie administers the BF loyalty oath.

The assembled and assimilated masses

Headed up the first, and second longest climb of the trip...King Mountain Road

A wonderful respite at the much feted "Bike Hut" on Tunitas Creek Road

Highly disciplined pace line headed for Costanoa tent cabins

Second day, and a stop in Santa Cruz for a committee tire replacement job. Honestly, a single person repair would probably have been faster. I

Il Capo (Gugie) contemplating one of the many sand dunes straddling the bike path into Monterey

Third day, and a glorious ride along the coast between Monterey and Carmel

A stop at the famous "Lone Cypress" in the rather exclusive Pebble Beach neighborhood.
