I don't know if we conclusively proved that theory, but we obtained enough first-hand research results to qualify getting a paper on the subject published in any reputable peer-reviewed cycling journal.

Although I missed out on the tour, it warms my heart to read about the journey. Since I've had the pleasure of riding with many of those on the tour, I can almost hear the commentary and banter--especially around those flat repair by committee events. Thanks for sharing the words and images.
There's a few reasons I post these touring threads. One is to do just that - proselytizing bike touring, and showing that even old farts can still do it. I also like to go back and relive these tours and the thread associated with it. Lastly, I typically get a rider or two to joint from BF that I've either never met or never spent much time with. There's always a good stretch of road somewhere on a tour that side by side riding is easily done, many great conversations get shared. It's not an easy thing to do. Having to ride 70 miles in a day on a loaded touring bike and climbing some steep roads, then waking up and doing it again and again creates deep bonds with the people you're touring with. Tour a week with somebody and you'll have a friend for life.

BTW, took the Singer out yesterday on a flat metric century, got lots of oohs and aahs.

Glad you are enjoying the Singer--it is above category--Matt told me that transfer had been made! I'll have to console myself on my MAP, which after a crazy and brief impulse to sell it last year, continues to be my go to for a lot of riding. I climbed Mt. Graham on it last week and at over '9000 I was glad I had my giant front bag to store layers and sausages.

What a group of bikes and wool! I see that no carbon forks were harmed in the making of Touroica. Y'all were so well-matched it was as if Wes Anderson did your costuming.
