Miyata identification

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone what model of Miyata this is? All I know is that it has Suntour components and 10 gears. Thinking of buying it and would be fun to know some history around it!

The problem is that I don't have the bike in front or me and the person selling it is not available for a while... not possible to see from the picture?

It would appear to be one of their lower end bikes from the early 70's bike boom. It is kind of hard to make any real I.D. from that picture. However, stem shifters, 10 speeds and non-aero brakes all point that way.

It's definitely not an early 1970's boom model. The decals indicate 1982 or 1983 and it would appear to be a model 110SP. The main difference of the SP over the standard 110 was aluminum rims. The rim material is impossible to determine by the pics, but one of the other differences on the SP version was the use of a self centering device on the Dia-Compe 500 brake calipers. These can just be seen in the pic on the upper left of the front caliper. FYI, the original price of the 1982 model 110SP was $198 US, while the standard 110 was $175 US.

Should you purchase the bicycle, I would appreciate the serial number for my database. Thank-you, in advance.

I stand corrected. I didn't recall anyone still using suicide levers in the 80's. I guess that is a sign of age. Mine, not the bikes.

The Seven was a rear derailleur by SunTour, not Shimano, The date code would make it a 1981 model. The frame serial number is from 1982, so it is likely a 1982 model, though a 1983 model is not of the realm of possibility.

Thanks. What do the big letter stickers above the serial number mean. This bike had G and D.

I recently bought a Miyata 1000 with Suntour parts, campy pedals. I have a serial number as well, with a stickered letter before and a stickered letter after...

I'll bracket the stickered letters:

[F]J286427[A]

Anyone got info on this? I'm new, BTW, and therefore a little uncertain who to ask.

Peace love and good energy

The CL photos show a nice bike! As the ad will disappear soon, perhaps you could take some photos of your own for this thread?

Try sending member T-Mar a PM...he will answer when he can.

I was gonna do it tonight, but the light fled on me (stupid DST shift) and try to upload some tomorrow. I'm not the best photographer, but I'll give it a try.

Can anyone help me identify the bike with this serial #?: Top Line: DS61
Bottom line: 228720

It has no original parts and has been repainted many times so the serial is all I have to go by.

Thanks in advance

EHauk3, did you post in this thread because you think it is a Miyata?

Miyata is one of the best contenders as of yet. I've found Miyatas, Diamondbacks, and a few others that all have serials that start out with "DS". I'm just guessing at this point. The frame looks similar to some Miyatas that I've seen pix of. Am I wrong?

I suggest posting some clear and closeup pics of your bike. Concentrate on the head tube, fork crown, and seat lug.
