Univega Gran Rally dating
This bike had been sitting in my parents and my storage for 15 years and I just recently got it out, dusted it off, and started riding. I'm really loving the bike and how it's getting me in shape. Was really Curious to know more about the bike like the year that it was made and and other interesting facts! If any Univega guru could help me out here, I would really appreciate it. I've included the serial number off the BB as well.

I wanna say "right" before the dawn of indexed gears, say 1984-1986ish? I'm no expert, but the graphics look very similar to my 84 Gran Turismo. The aero
brake levers and friction shifting mix is throwing me off, as are the silver non biopace chain rings. Someone should be along any minute who knows better than I.,,,,BD

+100 Tmar is the expert on these bikes, 1986. You can also easily look up all of the component date codes at the vintage Trek site, but the bike is a 1986 regardless. Often, components are not original, so component codes can be misleading.
Built by Miyata does not equal a Miyata bike. A lot of brands just existed as marketing companies, Univega was one of them.
Regardless, Univegas are nice bikes, I have owned several.

Thanks a lot Tmar. I was told that it was probably mid eighties but wasn't certain.
Bikedued - I'm not sure if the components are all original, but the shifters are SL-6208. I did a little research on them when I broke them. >.< From what I got from the research, I think they are the first iteration of indexing in the 600 series. It is fully equipped with 600 except for the new wheels, hubs, and 7 speed cassette that I put on it. I'm using the shifters in friction because I broke them and they only work that way now and I decided along with my LBS to get a cassette hub and I had to move up to 7 gears from 6.
