Decent modern steel rim brake frame sets?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Decent modern steel rim brake frame sets?

Any decent modern steel road frames out there that have rim brakes that are moderately priced? Not really sure of what to look for as everything I see online or insta is carbon usually. Hard to keep up with all the boutique builders. Just looking for ideas of stuff to look out for.

I always liked the off-the-shelf options, but still a bit of variety, at Condor:

You could do a lot worse than a Ritchey road frame. If you can get one.

I know you said "moderately priced" but that can be subjective. Do you have a price range in mind?

Are you looking for a steel frame and fork?...or just steel frame so a carbon fork is OK?
The difference in stock offerings is significant.
And as mentioned, what $ are you looking to stay at?

Without more info, there isnt much reason to suggest too much, but I will toss out the Soma Pescadero as an option as it is a steel frame and fork and can run narrow tires or up to a 38.

...the first person to suggest Surly needs a 1 week timeout.

It really depends on what your definition of moderate price is.

Although out of stock direct from Genesis, I can recommend the Equilibrium:

(I can't post the full URL until I've done 10 posts, but you get the idea...) //www.genesisbikes.co.uk/genesis-equilibrium-725-frameset-vargn21810

I ride a Cinelli Vigorelli Road and like it a lot.

Not comfort/endurance geometry, and not great for fast descents, either. But super fun for spirited riding in town, and if you like to sprint, it’s brilliant. Basically track bike geometry in a road frame.

They’ve not been made in a few years, but there is still some lingering stock, depending on what size you need. (I think they are now making a disc brake version.)

Here’s one in a 53cm, for $900 + shipping: Vigorelli Road

Ribble's Endurance 725 is under $1k for frame/fork.

Fairlight makes a handful of nice frames (very well reviewed) for $1300, I think?

If I were in the market for a steel road frame, I would buy a Fairlight Strael right away. I love my Fairlight Secan gravel frame and really like the company's design documentation.
...but its disc brakes and a carbon fork(havent heard if the fork matters).

Oh right - Fairlight's disc only. Got carried away there. A buddy of mine has been dragging his feet on ordering one, despite settling on that as his next bike for the past many many months...

The Ribble is still available as a rim disc frame though!

R & E Cycles in Seattle seem very nice. Probably moderate priced these days. https://www.rodbikes.com/catalog/out...tlaw-main.html

I saw one of these Gunnar bikes in a local shop this past weekend, thought this was a nice modern steel frame bike with rim brakes for a pretty good price. The weld quality is really nice: https://www.adrenalinebikes.com/shop...SABEgIKuPD_BwE

An excellent bike. I put SRAM Red group and tubeless wheel/tires on mine and it weighs 17 lb 10 oz as ridden. The frame is Columbus Spirit. I love it.

Last I heard, that guy was building something for the military/service vehicle industry. Maybe to do with helicoptors. Might still be building bikes, but only as a hobby. The BF member that would know got the boot a few years ago. I think there are a few used ones for sale on the net. His bikes had some success on the racing scenes.

Concur. The man just knows how to build a road bike. Looks like they've gone to disc brakes, but the 50th Anniversary frames appear to be rim brakes. And you might also try the used market.

Yep, it's a normal BSA English threaded BB

I'm going to necrobump this since it is a topic close to my heart.

I think this is how I'd go. But the Velo Orange Rando is another option.

Yea, they haven't made the Pacer in years. I hope that I can still get a replacement rim braked steel road bike if anything ever happens to mine.

High marks for this poster. I am so amused when people say "I cannot post links because I am new." I just let it slide, though .......
