Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately, for me, removing the seal was the hardest part. I'm working with an UN71, and after an easy alu-ring (visible) there is another alu/plastic seal, which is covered in rubber. Bent it badly when removing.

Not sure I'll use, I have enough sq. taper BBs on hand till the end of time. But thanks much for this, I love regenerating stuff. What is the ball bearing size, 5/32?

I did that decades ago when I was using F.A.G. bottom brackets for off-roading and all-weather commuting ("sealed" they were not!). It works fine as long as the plastic clips hold together.
