Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I fixed my toilet valve already. A very small piece of gravel was keeping the valve from completely shutting off. I assume it's sediment from somewhere in the line from either the softener or water heater and also assuming it got stuck in there after we came home and flushed the toilet a time or two.

Bike content: I wiped the bikes down before taking them to the shop. Mechanics hate filthy bikes.

If you get them and don't want to keep them, I may be interested in taking them off your hands.

I said "no" to IL 41 years ago. Still visit though, but try to avoid doing so in the winter.

lol. I took my ex on her first tour of more than an overnighter and we did a loop of 600+ miles in Oregon. One day we were on a long climb and I think it was drizzling. She pushed her bike into the bushes along the road and started kicking it. She was having a bad day.

Don't start her with some of the crazy stuff that you do. The lack of cars on a nice, quiet dirt road is a big plus.

I keep waiting, patiently, for DCRainmaker's updated annual trainer guide. So far, zip.

I wonder if the new Zwift Hub has made it a no-brainer??

I forgot to mention, my mechanics 2023 project one madone was at the shop the other day. Muy Caliente!

Add it to list.

He did petty blue and smoke grey. Looks sweet, and it’s way lighter than mine.

She loved the no cars aspect of it.

A lot of roadies try the dirt once and say "never again".
Often, that's the right choice.

Where is this? My gravel bike wants to know. It looks a lot like the Mt. Hillyer Rd. that starts at Chilao Flats.

I think it's Santa Clara truck trail near Mt Gleason, but I could be confused. I'll check later.

Most of ours is like this, there’s some gnarly deep stuff on some roads, but generally you can get a nice ride in with nothing but roads like this. This is looking East, that first ridge is VT.

This was from my ride on Saturday. Don't be fooled. This is one of the few sections of the dirt part of my ride that wasn't significantly uphill or downhill.

Are those roads/lands that you are showing private or public roads?

I can't think of anywhere in the DFW area that has those types of publicly accessible roads.

Serious question - why can’t I keep my existing crankset? I’ve been thinking about switching to Di2 (6800 now) and that price is really attractive. I don’t mind spending the additional $300ish for the crank, but am curious why I can’t keep my existing one.
