when i used to assemble bikes in dept stores for ylce corp this was about the best we got to build. saw it at a flea market in illinois near starved rock. the seller was willing to go down to 50.00. i just had to pass but it is sort of cool because i think they may have been made in the american raleigh factories.

could be, i was just guessing as it was about the same time as huffy owning raleigh in america. i do remember these coming back with the down tubes bent near the headset a lot. we tried to do warranty claims on bent frames but huffy wouldnt honor it.

what was nice was how easy it was to true the wheels and get the gears right on these bikes.

I would love to come across one of these some day.

Or better yet, one of these. I brought this one up in the past, and people informed me that these were entry level Raleigh's (I'm okay with entry/hi tensile stuff):

Isn't "Top of the line Huffy" an oxymoron?

trust me, when you have assembled as many huffys as i have you take what you can get. they were just awful many days and i got paid a full 3.00/bike to build them. huffy's were better than murrays because they were lighter and easier to get out of the box/ the best in the mid 80's were the kents. they were chinese made and needed little trueing plus the grips and brake levers were already on.

as terrible as it sounds, we did a much better job with assembling these bikes than the store employees did.

Yeah, it's nice and all. But it's no Aerowind!

I have a friend on the CABE restoring one or two Huffy Radiobikes... https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/19...ration.109510/ That's not the very best Huffy/Dayton/Huffman ever but it's much cooler.

I used to work with a guy who did that in most of the '70s and '80s sort of a 'have wrench will travel"

Neither of those bikes pictured above were built by Huffy, just badged as a Huffy bicycle. Huffy did make a few higher quality bicycle though. In the 1980's their BMX bikes were getting built better and some came with anodized aluminum wheels and alloy parts. In the late 90's Huffy came back strong in the BMX world with a few great bikes. Also in the 1980's they built a few higher end road bikes advertising the Official USA Olympics Sponsorship. I own one of these and it came with Araya 27" alloy rims, alloy stem, and a hand brazed frame head tube. 1983 Huffy Techtra Lite.........

There's been a guy or CL with a pair of Aerowinds for $100, claiming enough between them to build one.
I brought one home from the dump years ago-crimped 'aero' tubes, plastic-clad centerpulls that sort of looked like Dura Ace AX, Adamas indexed drivetrain. If I'm REALLY bored this winter I might make an offer for the spring CCRT ride.
