Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Again, it is not a strike against your specific bike. Maybe the DO looks better up close.

Here's a different photo with better colour contrast from before I cut the steerer. I can't say I noticed the dropout at all. The bars and stem are also shiny but not particularly visible from this angle. I particularly like the horizontal top tube and the semi-stealthy but not all black look.

Tried some garage photos, but the sun was too bright and the colours look washed out.

Definitely looks a lot better in this photo. Back to the DO. That's a really pretty frame. Look at all of the detail. The sculpting, forming, etc. All of the softening of the hard, blunt edges, really pretty. Now you are ogling around the headset area moving down the fork. Beautiful. That sculpted muscle on the fork blade tapering down, it's like art. Then you get to the DO and it's WTF, that thing is clunky! It also looks like it's not straight. Maybe it's meant to be that way. Maybe if the taper didn't get so small it wouldn't look so clunky. Who knows? If it was extended a little and rounded off some that would help I think. Pretty frame, though.

Pages and pages of lukewarm and tepid bike and finally someone has posted something hot.

That SK Pininfarinia is scorching. I had to wear oven mitts to type this.

Cut the steerer and get some proper Arundel Mandible cages and it will be done.

More better. It's tough to get that gun metal type shade to pop, but you did a decent job there. I really like that color, and as seypat says, the sculpting of the frame.

I do understand the comment on the fork drop outs. Everything is so perfect and they look so basic and crimped. But still, freaking hot, one of the hottest on this thread.

Hot, but aside from the front dropouts, I'm not a fan of the cable exit on the chainstay.

I'm sure these two would approve of the DeRosa, especially if you had some different tires on it. They have the passion for Italian things.

The angled underside of that saddle exaggerates the tilt. It is very nearly level. Even though I have no intention of riding this bike (too big for me) I couldn't bring myself to completely level the saddle as I'd never ride one like that. But I agree it does slightly detract from the otherwise very parallel lines of the bike. It was the only white saddle I had other than the very yellowed original.

Nice looking bike. I would rather the stem be chrome than white. I'm glad you posted it I have a bike I am working on that is a darker blue. I can't decide if it will have black rims or chrome. This picture will help me decide.

Thanks! I tried to keep as much of the original aesthetic alive with this retromod. The original build included a white stem, cables, saddle, and bar tape so that's how I built this one. The original also had white hoods but I didn't feel like trying to track those down. That white stem was hard enough (Bontrager something or other). I would have preferred darker grey rims than the bright silver of these Mavics but I had them on hand and wasn't about to build special wheels for this bike either.

Here's the original (quick cellphone shot after bringing it home):
