Addiction LXXVIII

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh, okay. Yeah, I've been experimenting with some 90% rides - those were a lot of fun - but that's stopping/slowing as necessary for traffic and then getting back up to power. For 100%, uninterrupted for 5+ min? Man, I'd have to think about where I'd have a flat road that would accommodate. There aren't even any inclines in the area that could accommodate that.

Under 3 min is probably where I'm at my best.

I know I'm always sniveling about getting old but sometimes when I climb I feel pretty good as if I could get back to where I was years ago. Yesterday I did an out and back of 50ish miles with about 5000 feet of climbing. It was hard but I didn't feel like I couldn't make it and I didn't cramp or have stomach issues. In the past, the last time maybe 8 years ago, I've done a ride starting at the same place but 100 miles with 10,000 feet of climbing. I couldn't imagine doing that century now.

Yeah, that's understandable and probably smart. Sounds like they weren't too confident in their value and decided to go with those that were more willing to speculate.

Just a curiosity - anybody else notice that Strava's maps seem to have a thing for mobile home parks? Whenever I looking at a Strava map that's outside of a metro area, mobile home parks seem to get a lot of love.

Thanks again, All! She's a doll, and Georgia-Mae is pretty OK with her already!

3 tries to land, tonight. Wind shear on the first two, so I got to witness some fighter pilot elevation gain in an Airbus 320

Maybe it's a Minnesota thing.

If only they could all be Airbus 320. Toward the end of my heavy flying period, I booked flights specifically for that aircraft. Aeromexico uses them a lot, out of Mexico City.

I've put 2112 miles on my Trek since I bought it in early 2019. Nothing to really brag about, but it's an excuse to listen to this:

I don’t need 30-second power, seeing as how I will never ride a crit again and I never had a sprint to begin with.

There are plenty of places here where I can do threshold intervals. Today was 7 on, 3 off because a 10 min base is easy on the blood-deprived brain. I guess if you’re really fast it’s like I used to tell the staff at the gym when they asked how my workout was: “This facility can no longer contain my immense fitness.”

Temp in mid-90s today so I'm going to try a headwind ride. Wife is going to drop me off 30 miles from home on the way to her doc appointment.

May feel like a 30 mile interval

Maybe not, plan on just spinning along and it is going to be fairly flat.

Your Trek plays music? Sweet!

Oh, wait, that's miles. My reading is not fundamental.

Based on WhyFi 's recommendation, I'm going to do my first ride on my newly mounted Schwalbe Pro1 Addix TLE tires. Looking forward to it.

No, I've definitely seen it in other places. Did a quick search online, and it's been noted by others. Evidently has to do with the vendor that supplies the data - the mobile home parks are essentially displayed like they would a township, for whatever reason. Odd.

I never saw Trek fans called "Trekkies" before until a recent posting. I somehow never drew the connection between the bike brand and the Sci-Fi franchise.

Look forward to hearing what you think of them.

....but this wifi person is going to eventually log in and wonder why people are tagging him/her.

Oh, and Addix. Axxis sounds a little... wrong side of WWII, if you know what I mean.

At one point earlier in the year, I had decided that I really wanted to train that peak power and crush the souls of my club mates on those town sign sprints. Then covid happened and I've somehow pivoted to focusing on a 170 mile ride that might never happen.

Why wouldn’t the 170 mile ride happen?

It's a one-way ride, so the wife would need to drive the kids and baggage and meet me at the destination. She's not terribly fond of driving, doubly so when she'd also need to manage the kids by herself.
