The differences are largely cosmetic. Campagnolo, unsurprisingly, is the best finished. The spindle is rifled to reduce contamination of the bearings. Gipiemme is very similar to Campagnolo, with similar trapazoidal windows in the cage plates, but without the bevelling of the Campagnolo pedal's windows. Ofmega has diamond shaped windows in the cage plates, otherwise very much like the Gipiemme.

Fun fact: the spindles are interchangeable between all of these!

Galli & Ofmega

Recent addition to the stable Vitus 979 with Galli Criterium crankset/bottom bracket & gold anodised brake calipers which I will swap with same type in silver and add drilled levers too to complete the look. On the way are also both front and rear mechs, seatpost and stem, so this will be a proper FrancoItalian piece.

Also in parts bin are NOS Ofmega Sintesi pedals and clips plus Colnago crankset which I'm told is Ofmega made.

Such cool bikes. Ofmega especially made some interesting looking components. I used to have an Atala with Ofmega Mistral components on it. I wish I had kept the groupset to put on something else.

So far so good, but theres got to be more out there.

Only thing I'm missing is a front derailleur. Rings are under the towels. Headset, and bottom bracket are dura ace as well. Wheels ( not shown cause it's a pain to get them out.) are Dura ace black high flange hubs with oil ports laced to Mavic red label rims. Also have the brake levers, but left them on the bars with the stem.

Nice. Is that Nervar crankset? Not seen full ZZR but plenty of ROG from Slovenia, homeland of Tour and Giro 2020 winners

Anyone seen SR Royal crankset like that before with spider arms drilled? Picked up this two days ago. DA 7100 black edition mostly.

My Gary Hale was originally equiped with a full Galli/Maillard groupo -- Galli brakes, crank, and derailleurs; Maillard hubs, 7-spd freewheel, and pedals; Galli-labeled Stronglight roller-bearing headset.

The left crankarm broke. The rear derailleur eventually was worn till it was sloppy (and I need wider gearing than it would allow, anyway, as an old guy in a hilly area). The rear axle was subject to breaking, and it has a unique thread, so I gave up in that a long time ago. The pedals are fine, but I converted to SPD. I still ride this bike and it still has the Galli brakes and front hub. The headset is hardly worn at all. And of course the Superbe seatpost is still going strong.

Sorry for the photo that does not show the components well, but this the only photo I have of the bike with original parts.

I suspect the drilling in the spider arms was not done at the factory. The Sakae Royal "Superlight" crank has factory drilled rings like yours, but the crank itself is not drilled:

I recently acquired this 89 Bianchi CdI, mostly original.

It's a mix of Gipiemme, Ofmega and Modolo with Suntour thrown in for good measure. The Original Owner had the Modolo brake levers replaced with Shimano levers cause he said the white hoods were dirty...

I replaced the Shimano levers with this set of Modolos. Probably not what was speced on there but I like the way they look.

Yes, technically you are right. The other parts preceded the rear derailleur and were specced with the crane. 1974?

Great thread! So much cool eye-candy in here.

I’m not sure how vintage this would be considered, but I’ve had this Sachs New Success group in continuous use on a couple different bikes since the mid-90s. Always have had a soft spot for oddball stuff.

The brakes are rebranded Modolos:

Rear derailleur is a Sachs Maillard product:

The crankset was made by Campagnolo - a higher polished version of an Athena crank, but cut for a JIS tapered spindle:

8-speed Campagnolo Ergolevers, but with a different shifter ratchet. Not compatible with Campagnolo derailleurs!

This road group came with an 8-speed freewheel hubset, but I’ve been using a Record 9-speed cassette hub, using 8 cogs re-spaced to be compatible with the Sachs setup. I’ve got a New Success cassette rear hub that was originally marketed in their mountain bike line that I cut down to 130mm. Gonna have to get a new rear wheel built one of these days so I can get back to “tout Sachs”.

I saw this old thread and decided it was worth resuscitating... Especially as this Masi is next on my list for a game of "keep or sell". Pretty complete Galli groupset, save hubs and pedals.
