WTB: The Art Of Wheelbuilding
Does anybody have a copy they are willing to part with? My bike shop owner recommended me to try to get a copy.

That’s the text I use for wheel building. Glad to scan and send the critical pages, but also looks like you can download the pdf here:
https://idoc.pub/download/gerd-schra...g-19n0dy6w9klv
I can’t vouch for the legitimacy of that site.

I've got a copy, and while I'm not going to let it go, I will second your bike shop owner's recommendation of the book. I'm sure they come up on eBay from time-to-time. I see it's available on Amazon for more than it's worth, but you might keep an eye out there as well.

Adding to the list of accolades and those not willing to sell you there copy -- it's a great book, I use it for all of my wheels. I only build wheels every 2-3 years so it's critical for re-learning each time.
There's copies out there on the internet -- I forget where I ordered mine, but I got a new copy!

I read it all to understand the philosophy and then I printed the 10 or so pages relevant to building a wheel so I can always start off on the right hole.

I built Musson's truing stand(plans in the book)..have about $15 in this:
Four wheels while recovering..that's great. Turn a rough time into something you'll get a lot of use out of.

fishboat , that may be $15 invested... but how much time? I see some nice finishing work on those surfaces and edges... btw, I would bill you out to customers at $150 an hour

Not sure really. Maybe a couple hours. The edges are milled down 2x4 cutoffs. White platform is a chunk of my kitchen countertop I took out about 15+ years ago. The light was $1.99 from Goodwill.
I don't work for wages any more.. BTDT..and done with that.

I won’t let my copy go, but I can highly recommend it. Gerd’s method for lacing is what I prefer, by far, to other methods.

I have built up a lot of wheel sets in my day. Good old Sheldon Brown shared this Wheel Building article that, in my opinion, is second to none for content and ease of understanding.

Sheldon approach works well with me. The real issue I have is the transition from not being able to measure tension to the low numbers on the scale. once I get radial then lateral uniformity along with even tension, I'm good.

I followed Sheldon’s instructions at first, made lots of mistakes. Switched to Schraner and haven’t made any mistakes. Ymmv.

Here is a really thorough review.
https://ride-or-pie.blogspot.com/2015...-to-wheel.html
The site is sponsored by the author.
It also has links to more updated spoke lenght calculators that take into account the stretching quality of the spoke etc. I just downloaded it for a modes fee and I am really happy.
The other books, as per multiple reviews, are not a thorough.
Glad I read this post. I am always impressed by the high level of information and advice on this forum!
Cheers,

I tried the books mentioned but I’m more of a visual learner. This YouTube works well for me.
