Guerciotti

For a while I have had an itch to sell my Lemond and get an Italian bike. I just ran into this Guerciotti, but I know almost nothing about Italian bikes, but something is very odd. The owner says it is a mid 1980's bike, but it has a Shimano 105 groupset (at least it has a 105 rear derailleur and brakes). Also, the tires (I can not read the name on the wheels) are 700 x 28. I know that on my old cannondale, I could not have got a set of 700 x 23 on that rear let along 700 x 28. Any thoughts; the paint is beautiful. He is asking $400.

Like many of us, anyone can put more modern gear on an old frame (though that doesn't look too far out, still DT shifters.)

That'd be a great candidate to strip everything off and put modern 10 or 11 speed Campy on it. 400USD for a complete Guerciotti in my size? TAKE MY MONEY.

Seems like a nice deal if everything is straight and the paint's as good as you say. Personally, I would want to know the tubeset.

That's Columbus Aelle tretubi. Four hundred is a little more than I'd pay and I'm a Guerciotti nut.

Thanks for all the comments. That paint keeps pulling me. As for the Lemond Buena Vista, it is one notch below the Zurich. THey have the same 853 reynolds and ultegra group set, but the some of the tubes are different

That bike was painted here in the USA by a company called Ten Speed Drive Imports (they were shipped as raw frames), owned by a man Tom Eason. They had a house brand frame/bike called Tommaso ( a play on Eason's first name) which was built in the same Italian factory as Guerciottis (Billato). I see that you're from Florida, TSDI was based in FL.

Bad camera angle to assess the fork being possibly pushed back.

The bike really should be test ridden.
The bike you have probably has a longer top tube- one or the other will fit you better.

No decal on the fork, so who knows what that's made of. Agree the paint job looks great, but also recall TSDI and that Guerciotti was a house brand and lower level. I used to think that Gita did the same with their Giordana line as I only knew them for their clothing.

Guerciotti was indeed it's own brand, not lower level at all. Tommaso was TSDI's "house" brand. As mentioned, they came from the same factory. The lower line Gerchs didn't have tubing stickers on the forks. For what it is, the bike is correct.

Sweet bike. I've put probably 20, 000 miles on my aelle tretubi tsdi guerciotti. It's my most comfortable favorite bike to ride. I also have an sl, spx, vitus 980, other Italian and French bikes. But the guerciotti just rides so sweet. I don't put a lot if stock in tube stickers though. Just ride.

Ummmm.......

You could get on of the pre-Trek era Lemond bikes. Then you'd still have a Lemond and an Italian bike since they were built in Italy.

that actually explains a lot. ruffly the same price tho...except this includes components and wheels....

i'd be tempted at the price and sizing but currently other fish to fry.

opened all the doors and windows for the fish fry but this still smells like a buy.

A couple of days ago they wanted a grand as a starting bid. I'd be curious to know if it's the original seller or the OP flipping the bike.
