Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

This is going to be so cool - like Sonofamechanic I love the color scheme. Careful with that URT rear end, they like to buck riders off

I've got a ZTTO dropper lever on my MTB, if that tensioner is built as well as my lever is I bet you'll be really happy with it

Cute kitty, too

Thank you. I was going to do the rear triangle in black but I think this worked out pretty good.

^^^ I dig it - I think the blue works a lot better than the yellow did.

I’ve seen a lot of NJS track frames but never a fork with such slight curve/rake! I think that really adds an elegance. How does it handle?

My "other" new fixed gear. A bit too small, but fits well enough with the townie-ization. Unknown (as of yet, I'm working on it) builder, probably in the PNW during 70s/80s. Custom paint. Since the tapered stays match the catalog, I'm guessing full 531 tubeset. Prugnut Super Professional lugs, Columbus track ends, reinforced bottle cages, and a wild square undrilled seatstay. The bb feels a bit low, coupled with the bottle bosses leads me to think it was a custom road fixed frame. The PO was a certifiable fixie goon, still street riding track bikes in his 70s.

fine, haven't noticed any drawbacks. Lil toe rub with size L clips on Sylvans, but nothing that'll stop me in my tracks in a u-turn. The other day I was moving pretty fast and merged into the bike lane, and kinda shocked myself at how quickly I was able to do that. It was kinda scary for a second, but then I was like, damn. This handles awesome. Zippy. Easy to ride no hands, it'll stay pretty straight. And my headset isn't cranked or anything, it spins free. The fork doesn't look as straight in other photos but I did notice that about it too.

vvvvv This red/white vintage one is toooooo cool. It works well in townie mode I think. Good find

Today's ride

Needs a bath. Heavy with the s3x wheelset (heavy, but indestructible) but rides smooth and perfect for hillier terrain. The weight doesn't impact average speed that I have noticed too much. Columbus main tubes (probably cromor or some custom drawn tubing for Schwinn) with crit type geometry. Love this bike.

Raleigh Technium Tri-lite and it feels so right.

Finally back on the road without all the clunky old gears.

Rear wheel: Fuji branded with Fuji branded 16t flip-flop
Crankset: Sakae with 46t Origin8 chainring

Tires: Specialized Armadillo Elite

To do list:
Upgrade saddle
Upgrade crankset/bb

Picked this up a few years ago as a frame set with headset, brakes, crankset and stuck seat post for $50. The stash burped up the stem, handlbar, tape, brake leavers, post, and saddle. The wallet donated a replacement BB, larger chainring, wheel set, chain and rear sprockets.

Used lye to get the post out.

I would like to go back to more C&V appearance much like this:

but don't want to cough up the bucks for Campagnolo hubs. What would be a good hub set? Origin 8? Gotta be bling.

I would go with a box section rim and Mack superlight low flange hubs. Paul hubs are classy looking for a high flange hub too.

Now to me, that's a nice combination of traditional styling and modern touches. Good looking bike.
