Even on the weekends I can escape most of the crowds at the National Seashore by visiting those out-of-the-way places. Drakes Estero and Mount Vision today. 35 miles, 3,700' of climbing, sunny and breezy.

I built up my first set of wheels and took them out for a 40 mile test ride. My 5-speed clinchers were 27" and I like to switch back and forth between tubulars and clinchers so I either had to buy a new set fo 700c wheels or repurpose some parts and make my own.

Today I rode the first section of the Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway, from the start in Hillsboro out to Verboort.
A lot of farmland on this route.

The great thing about the scenic bikeways is that there are easy-to-spot signs marking every turn, like this one.

There aren’t many more than six families there now. It’s a very small community. There is a Catholic church though.

Yesterday was The Storming of Thunder Ridge, in the mountains around Lynchburg, VA. Seventh time I've done this ride, which includes a 13 mile climb from the lowest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the highest point, on which there is an observatory. Cool and breezy up on the mountain, hot a humid down in the valley. There was a lot of this:

Spent the weekend at our favorite campground on Lake Billy Chinook in Central Oregon. I always manage to get away for a quick ride, and this one is the most epic quick ride in existence! 7 miles, 1,000 feet, and the diesel 4X4s were surprisingly courteous.
It had rained a little bit, so the sagebrush smelled incredible.
Over a little suspension bridge, and up!
A couple of dramatic switchbacks.
A little flat pedaling on top.
Cowabunga! I could have taken fifty more pictures, but I had to put down the phone and ride the thing at some point!
Back to the campground with a light rain.
