Velox Tressostar Fans?
I've been using Velox cloth handlebar tape and rim tape for decades. I have been refusing to change to anything "neu" due to: I don't like change. But... has anyone noticed a decrease of the thickness of the Velox Tressostar tape? My last rolls seemed a little thin.

I have three or four sets of older tape (had it for years), I would be happy to mic the thickness for you if you feel it would be a help. I found a new way to wrap handlebars and get perfect results every time...

Perhaps Tressoplast was a bit thicker---haven't seen any for 40 years, so I can't recall. Plastilac definitely was, but that was plastic, of course.

Newbaum’s cloth tape is just a tad longer, so I use that. Sorry cannot help on perceived change to Velox. [edit: as I remember, a tad is about 3", in this case]

I use Tressostar exclusively including re-wrapping my C 37 Bertin's handlebar about a month ago. No change that I have noticed and the tape was a recent purchase not something I had squirreled away.

there has been an evolution from 40 years ago. It was never a stable product, sometimes the adhesive stuck to the top surface of the tape leaving it tacky, this was in the 80's.
Way back there was Tressostar and Tressorex.
Newbaums is OK, I find the finish less "polished" and it attracts dirt more readily than Tressostar.

I'm assuming by thin you mean the actual thickness of tape? If so, I agree: the stuff is really thin compared to modern Newbaum's, for instance. And, of course, the overall length is shorter, too; I've found it extremely challenging to get a Cinelli Campione del Mondo bar wrapped end to end without getting a bit creative around the brake lever clamp. Also have found rolls where the adhesive bled and made the tape seem even thinner, and after a long time I'm sure that stuff is part of the reason the tape can be very fragile and easy to tear.

My offer was legit and not intended to come across as sarcastic. I like to learn when I can and share information when I am sure that I know what I am talking about. That said, in this "more for less" world, it would not surprise me if the company did lower quality, a bit, to cut production costs and elevate profits. Seems to be the way things are, these days.

If the length of Velox is the same today as on the older box - the difference in length to Newbaum's is 0.4m.
Yeah, yeah - we used to ride narrow handlebars. I still ride 38cm - and I like a lot of overlap (i guess) on my cloth wrap. Not so much overlap on padded type wrap.

I *just* wrapped some bars with nos Tressostar tape last week. It was so "o" that the adhesive strip on the back was completely dried up and utterly useless. I had to apply some tack to the bars to get the wrap to stick to it. It was kind of a pita, but it turned out nice.
It measures .5mm thick, 20mm wide.

I have had this problem- my solution is a 3M ATG “gun” dispenser- with 924 transfer tape- after application and peel off all that is there is an acrylic adhesive.

now firms like Masi bought the 50m roll
Newbaums does make a big spool... not cheap will last and infrequent monitoring of the tail end.

I took the advice I'd found on an earlier thread and placed an order for twilltape.com. I think their "heavyweight cotton" tape is very close to what I remember of Tressostar. It's not glued, so I put a couple strips of double-sided tape down first. I greatly prefer the feel of Newbaums, so I've been putting a layer of twilltape down under my Newbaums.
