Addiction 2021.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It looks symmetrical. There's a non-zero chance that seeing that bike will cause a driver to have a seizure, and crash into you.

No uniform required, no passport required.

You might have to take off your shoes though

The spinach we got as yutes in North Carolina was boiled 'til it started turning brown, and they always had shakers of vinegar on the table, to help it not taste so much like silage.

Or maybe that made it taste more like silage, I dunno. Never tasted silage, only smelt it.

Some weeks back a lady on our ride took us to a place that had all manner of flaky crusted baked goods. I had a spinach quiche which was served with a fresh spinach salad. It was a spinach dream.

Those nightmares persist to this day. Do enjoy a spinach salad though.

There are lots of things we "had" to eat when yutes that I will not touch today.

There is carbon involved

I'll post pictures once I get it, but here's an approximation of the color scheme

Wed is usually a good riding day for me, but I think that I'm going to skip it today - we've got an "Orange" air quality alert with visible haze from wildfires, so I'll save the heavy breathing for later.

Otso Waheela C arrived yesterday and went on its maiden voyage. The shop building it texted late afternoon that it was ready. I wasn't expecting it until today, so I raced across town, picked it up, and was on the road to meet my friends for a 6 p.m. road within less than an hour. I didn't even have time to take pictures of it in its pristine state before it got all gravel dusty.

Anyway so far so good. 30 miles with some punchy climbs, it definitely feels more compliant and soaks up the vibrations and chatter really well. Also feels much more stable on descents than my old CX bike. Went full send on a couple steep descents and did not need to scrub speed at all which is not the experience I had on my other bike. Feels quicker too, but who knows how much of that is new bike watts + placebo effect.

Still dialing in the fit. I'll try to get some pics today.

The smoke from western wildfires was pretty bad here in Philly yesterday. The sun looked like a giant, navel orange in the afternoon/evening. Today is still hazy, but not as bad. Cold front tonight is supposed to push it all away.
