Looking for mirror

I have a Trek 850 Antelope that I am starting to ride a little bit more on roads. I was thinking about a mirror so I can see behind me. I kind of like those mirrors you wear on your arm. I don't want something that has to be cut into the handle bar or grips. I have seen some that attach with a strap, but little worried about those sliding around.

Any suggestions?

I recommend a mirror on your helmet. You can scan and see all around behind you. No shaking over rough surfaces. 3rd eye helmet mirror is what I use.

Yes, a Third Eye helmet mirror worked fine for me on my prior helmet.

Now that I am using the Bell Z20 helmet my Third Eye helmet mirror (03) mirror didn't fit, so I have switched to the EVT Safe Zone helmet mirror.

This is a sturdy and large mirror. The usage is easy and intuitive.

I like my Take-A-Look mirror so much, I carry it with me when I'm not riding. I might jump on a Citi Bike unexpectedly or something like that. I attach it to my glasses, but you can attach it to a helmet, too.

I use a Third Eye mirror that has a threaded clamp, the thread tightens the clamp. It clamps onto my visor on my helmet very well. With the clamp designed that way I can unthread it to loosen and remove the clamp for when I travel by train or plane, I can pack my mirror separately where it is less likely to be broken.

You'll wind up fooling around with everything until you finally settle on the Take A Look mirrors that you clip on your glasses or can be mounted to your helmet. There's two versions, pick the one you like.

I have tried all types of mirrors and then saw a rider with a Rearviz. It straps onto your wrists, and flips open. It is very intuitive to use and I think is the most stable and versatile mirror. We have bought three via Amazon. It is an Australian company. They offer some size and color options.

I am beyond satisfied with my Safe Zone mirror. This is a mirror that attaches securely to your helmet and puts a perfectly sized mirror out in the upper corner of your field of view. The mirror is big enough to see--with only a movement of your eyes--the entire quadrant behind you (mine's on the left, so I can see all oncoming traffic). And with a slight--just a few degrees of motion--you can see behind you and on the other side as well. It's easily adjustable in a millisecond while riding: it's fully articulable so that if you're in the down position you can adjust for that; if your hood on your winter jacket is causing obstructions you can adjust for that; if the sun's reflecting in your eyes, you can adjust for that.

The amazing thing is the company. I broke mine by dropping my helmet right on the mirror. The company sent me a replacement with no questions asked. There's only one other company I know that does that (Otterbox). It's amazing in this day and age. They've got a customer for life!

But, to be productive with some new info, in post number six above, I mentioned the mirror I use. I can now add a photo of it from last summer.

The rain cover on the helmet obscures it a bit, the mirror clamps to the visor. Can be removed and re-installed. Before I get on an airplane and fly somewhere, I like to remove the mirror so it does not get damaged.

I forgot my water bottle for my 60 minute ride yesterday. Not turning around for that. I've gone without gloves and bare handed it and not turned back. If I forgot my take-a-look mirror on my glasses (prescription), I would definitely turn back and get them.

The strap situation is not as bad as you’ve been led to believe. Someone threaded it backwards, and gave it s negative review.
it goes out-in-out, and they had it in-out-in.
There are only two ways to thread the strap through the slots.
With a rear-view mirror, cycling will be a lot easier on your nerves.
