Jersey with zipper on the other side

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jersey with zipper on the other side

Not long ago I bought a jersey that unzips all the way but the pull tab is on the other side of the zipper that men's clothing has (it's on my left-hand side rather than my right). All of my other jerseys are either 1/4 or 1/2 zipper length so there's no way to tell on those what side the tab is on. I'm wondering if this is a women's jersey? It fits me well, has a man's cut and there's no other indications what sex it is for. It doesn't bother me; I just curious if I'm accidentally cross-dressing.

I don't know that everywhere around the world is standardized on this. I certainly won't be watching to see which side the pull is on.

Heck I don't even want to be around when you are putting it on or taking it off. <grin>

I think that it's more common for European brands to have zipper pulls on the left side while American brands tend to have them on the right.

My team recently switched kits to an American manufacturer (Verge) and the jersey's have full zippers with the slider on the left side. Our team has worn kits from different manufacturers over the years and this is the first one with a left side zipper slider. It doesn't matter to me because I never open the zipper on my jersey all the way to take it on and off....I simply slip it over my head. I find this method prevents the zipper and slider from breaking.

I thought it was a sartorial custom that men and women have zippers/buttons on different sides. I've heard it came from a tradition of men dressing themselves and women being dressed by peers/servants and it's some sort of aristocratic holdover/reference.

“The button was invented in the late Middle Ages, and because of the sumptuary laws, only wealthy women were allowed to have buttons on their clothing,” Hally, who runs The Ultimate Fashion History YouTube channel, explained. “Wealthy women were dressed by their maids, and so the buttons were positioned where they were for maids, as most people are right-handed. That’s where it all started.”

The hansom cab is a kind of horse-drawn carriage designed and patented in 1834 by Joseph Hansom, an architect from York. The vehicle was developed and tested by Hansom in Hinckley, Leicestershire, England.

For a man the correct side for zippers and buttons depends on which side you dress to.

I've got jerseys with zippers on both sides. I think it's a Euro thing.

The Interwebs have told me that zipper sides are only standardized in the US, but are left to designer choice elsewhere. So, a men's jersey (or any other clothing item) from a European brand might have the zipper on either side. One example explanation here: https://guide.sportsmansguide.com/mi...ropean-zipper/

Your man-card is intact.

And of course we have to keep it this way for absolutely no reason even though it's been "more inconvenient" to the way women actually dress for decades (it's so hard to find a good ladies' maid these days), because of course we have to have some stupid way of making sure women and men know what they're expected to wear and we can't have anybody breaking any gender molds, even in situations where they're irrelevant... (see also: why everything for women is in pink or pastel colors, even if it's the same exact thing for the same exact purpose.)
