RIP Leslie West

Oh man....
I want my Best of Mountain album and West, Bruce, and Laing "Why Dontcha" 8-track tape back right now.
And the Audiovox under- dashboard player while I'm at it.

I seriously did not know what "Nantucket Sleighride" was about until yesterday. Just the title evokes a Christmas-y winter wonderland. There's dark. And then there's mother******g dark.

Leslie West taught me how to do hammer ons/pull offs. When I was a kid, I video taped a bunch of segments off Night Flight- one of the songs was a Beat Club performance of Mountain's "Don't Look Around" and I copied that solo- and played it over and over and over... I love the way it drops down into that solo section... I still can't do it right, but it was all from this song.

And Mountain's cover of Theme for an Imaginary Western (by Jack Bruce) is a Top Ten tune for me.
