Mirror with Bar End Shifters

Hello

Just picked up a Surly LHT and realized mirrors are an issue without having the drop bar ends available i.e. bar end shifters.

Has anybody found a good mirror option without having to lose the shifters?

Thanks

Garmin radar. Helmet mirror lasted about 3 weeks.

I moved the shifter for the FD to the downtube on my 520 and installed a barend mirror on the left. Kept the RD shifter on the barend. I actually kinda prefer it this way now.

I have not tried these on a drop bar, but do not see why they would not work. Attach to the last part of the bar at the shifters.

There are several clamp-on bar mount mirrors out there you can find.

I've tried helmet and glasses mounted mirrors, either broke them quickly or didn't like the view and went to and really like bar end mirrors. My first one was some kind of clamp on because I had bar extenders on the flat bars on my old hybrid bike - worked fine, but the one MarcusT showed looks superior.

I do bar ends but use the Zefal mirror just below my brifter. Been using this for about 8 years. Well this is the second one. Got the radar last a couple years ago. The radar tells me to look.

I picked up that little Zefal mirror yesterday from my LBS and will give it a try this weekend. Cheers.

Thanks MarcusT and biker128pedal.

I use a helmet mirror. DW uses a handlebar mounted one. It might be the Zefel. We both use the Garmin radar. For me, it is worth the investment.

I mounted a mirror on a block of wood, and epoxied that onto the end of a piece of flexible steel tubing, like an old gooseneck lamp might have, about 15" long. It actually doesn't look as clunky as it sounds. The tubing is clamped to the bar near the stem. it is nicely adjustable and has proved durable through lots of lumpy dirt roads, and a few falls. No geese were harmed in its manufacture. I got a piece of microphone mounting flex and cut the ends off. I got it from a musical instrument supply company called Sweetwater. They were very nice to deal with. BTW, the steel is very hard and just laughed at my hacksaw, but succumbed to an angle grinder. In use, it is easy to adjust, but has enough friction to hold the adjustment, at least until the next fall.

I am surprised that does not get in your way when you’re in the drops.

I mostly ride in the hood but they the drops work. The Trek bars have a slightly straight flat section and my left hand just touches the mirror mount. Other bars may not be as roomy.

Search for this and you will find a lot of threads with a lot of good options.

Here is what I did. I bought Mirrcycle Road Mirror and mounted it to my bars using a reflector clamp.

phughes, thanks for the idea on using a reflector clamp to mount a mirrycle mirror. I did the same today, just inboard of my left bar end (didn't want to drill them out) on a flat bar mountain bike : ).

If you have the older style brake levers this is a way better option
