I can get it to fit sort of, but I think I need to file a bit. Would you file the crank seats a little or the ring. I am thinking filing the chainring seats a bit to it will smoothly fit.

I thought this was going to just be a super easy job. lol. Gotta love the old vintage stuff when you need to repair something.

Thoughts?

...I can only go from personal experience, but 144 BCD as a standard has worked fine for me in all the chain ring swaps I've done between manufacturers (Sugino had 144 as their standard for their Campy imitation, the Mighty Comp for a while, and I've used the Suntour Superbe144 rings on Campy without issues. Can't recall using the Dura Ace rings ? ) My only thought is there might be something else going on. I don't do a whole lot off track chainring swaps, so I'm not much help here.

Are the holes in the old and new rings both drilled with a recess for the seat ?

The flange radii are different. Shimano even has this problem with some 104 mm MTB rings.

From what I have been reading people make it work with some filing. I wanted to buy a "round" chainring as an improvement. I guess if I am filing that might change things in that department, but I will try and be consistent with each mounting point.

Would you agree with my direction?

Picture added to show the crank with old chainring.

If it were me, I'd set aside that Dura-Ace and get a Sugino Mighty or 75, SunTour, Campy (or probably a host of others; TA?, Zeus?). I have a Sugino 75 crankset and swap between Campy and Sugino and cannot tell which I've got without looking,

I use little Shimano simply because they love to do things slightly differently so you cannot quite swap cleanly.

The bolt holes will keep everything aligned.

File the ring, it's the wear part and will eventually have no value unlike the crank.

The guys in the last shop where I worked would spend the time filing the inside of the rings to fit the Shimano cranks. I was lazy, and I also had a problem taking a file to brand new parts, so I'd just order the correct ring. I could tell if the ring would work by looking at the picture.

In your case the correct ring isn't readily available, so I would have no problem taking a file to the one you have. And, yeah, as someone already mentioned, Sugino rings are compatible with Campagnolo.

I filed the ring, new chain and had to get a new rear Euro Asia cog for the rear. It has never been this nice. All 1/8" front and rear. Should have taken a picture before I rode it 50 miles or so, but it is smooth and looks good when it is clean. lol

I cannot have substandard parts on one of the nicest fixies in the US, if not the nicest, but thanks.
