Cino Rigs 2021

First off, if this should be part of the Cino thread, mods can delete or merge(or whatever)

For those who chose to ride this year, post up your bike that you're gonna punish. Some details would be good also.

I rode Cino once before, in 2013. This year I am riding with my thirteen year old son. We're riding a 1984 Joe McElroy tandem. We've been riding this together for the last nine years. He started out using a kid stoker kit when he was four.

For Cino, we're going to put on some new tires and change up the bar tape color. I'm in the process of a partial tear down so I can polish it up a bit.

Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones.

The nod is likely to go to the 2002 Davidson. It won't garner enough points to receive a Heroic stamp, but no matter. I took care of that in my only other appearance (Cino 2014) with the Colnago Mexico, and anyway the Davidson deserves a chance to get a sound thrashing.

Currently watching out for some high thread-count 25mm clinchers, but my favorites aren't made anymore and haven't been showing up on Ebay as of late - I may have to live with a scuffed pair of 23s

Made a modification today as a result of all that crud seen in the first photo:

Recently had a problem in my neck, requiring a tall stem to keep using drop bars. And most of my bikes have drop bars. Had my 1971 Stella ready to go last year but we got cancelled. Neck is responding to physical therapy, so still hope to ride Stella, but trying out some other possibles in case I need upright bars. Been riding a Vitus 979 (recent acquisition) because it's already setup with a Porteur bar. Hasn't much tire clearance, but while shopping for some 25c I found a pair of 26c Pasella Gravel Kings and they aren't too bad on our local gravel roads. Another possibility is an old Centurion Pro Tour, but it requires some work. Will add pics later. Don

I'm trying to decide between my '74 Raleigh Int'l and my '82 Holdsworth Special.





The Holdsworth has 650B x 38mm wheels and a triple crankset, so probably more suited to the terrain and surface. The Raleigh has C&V cred.

I had planned on taking the Lejeune I purchased from @obrentharris, if I had time to tripleize the cranks, put on a long cage on the NR derailleur, and swap out the tires for wider sewups, but I've got a lot of other projects that need attention, and somehow feel it inappropriate to mod that bike. I think I'll just use it as a fast Sunday rider.

It's a little difficult to tell whether Rule #5 is being complied with. Doc looks a little too comfortable and relaxed to me. Perhaps if he removed that inner chainring and mounted a corncob in the rear we could be more comfortable that compliance was being achieved.

I supplied enough Rule #5 on that day to cover Doc, Neal, Andrew and Hugh. I didn't stop riding until the 800# gorilla was done.

I can't be there in person, but I will be there in spirit. So will this. I mean, I built it up specifically with Cino (and Eroica) in mind (with the pedals swapped out, of course). Maybe 2023 (he says wistfully)

I think this would honestly be a really fun and memorable side-show. Guy shows up with a bike completely in pieces, and a small team of C&Vers assembles it really fast next to the Cino support van. (With no shortage of experienced supervisors to make sure it's done right.)

Like one of those parades where a couple guys riding an old army Jeep hop out and disassemble the whole thing really fast, then throw it back together and hop back in to continue the parade.

I will be bringing a finely crafted Italian bicycle built by the one and only Cino Cinelli. The gearing is a little stiff for hillclimbing but Rule #5!

Pics for my comment #3 above: The Stella and Vitus are ready, just trying different saddles to find a "just right" feel. Other bikes are possible, but each requires some work. The maroon Brooks is pretty comfortable, but I have a Vetta SL to try on a long ride. It would make the Vitus a pound lighter. The 26c Gravel Kings are 1" wide (45# front, 50# rear) and I have a tall stem/bar set if need be. Don

1974 Cinelli Speciale Corsa
that bike is interesting. There was a fellow out of Hawaii selling on LA Craigslist a Cinelli that looked original paint but had waterbottle and shifter bosses like this bike. The waterbottle points with the stress relievers were not seen before by me, this makes the second bike I have seen with, so indeed set that to the original file.
my approx ‘71 only has brazed on bottom bracket and chainstay guides.
don’t like clamp on waterbottle cages.

I'm still considering this. All you pro's at it, talk to me about tires for the Opus. 700 x 30 true size will fit for sure. What would you run? I'm finding limited options when not going larger than 30mm. These will be old rims also so not running tubeless. I'm riding at around 185 lbs right now.
