Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We built a house and pool in 2000. When we were doing the landscaping, I bought and planted a live oak tree on one side of the pool. The landscaper told me not to do it (what do they know) as it would shade the whole pool when it was mature. I asked him how long that would be, and he said about 30 years. My response was that by then I would be in my 70s and would likely enjoy the shade.

What I didn't count on was the number of acorns that would fall into the pool.

Our current pool is in full sun all day, and has a dark bottom. Even with that, the water temp rarely gets higher than the mid-80s. Of course, the cooling effect is directly related to the temperature differential between the air and water.

We have a very large Sycamore in our yard, east of the pool. Our neighbor to the west has a very large evergreen (Deodar Cedar, I think). The pool is a constant battle of leaves, needles, and cones, depending on the season.

We bought the house 11 years ago, and the pool was already there. I wouldn't choose to build a pool in my yard. Ironically, my company builds pools.

This is the kind of pools we build (Occidental College, Los Angeles)...

I knew. I was all excited when he got that property in Oak Ridge, that was before we found out it was going to be for eBikes though.

Last night was probably the worst night of my life, and what makes even worse, I will have to experience again and again until June 2nd.

Long story short I am operating on zero sleep on my first of only 2 days off.

In related news, I'm trying not to buy bikes right now, but I've always wanted one of these. Looks kinda rough but only $300...

My first real race bike was a LeMond Zurich. Very nice ride. I wish I still had it.

Maybe I'll HTFU this weekend, ride over there, and see if the story checks out. See if they need a consultant to show them what a proper bicycle looks like.

Are those the correct brakes and fork? Hard time believing they are.
