Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It was a little chilly in Snoqualmie Tunnel, even in July. Fog poured out of the eastern portal

There's a section of the PA Turnpike that was abandoned after they re-routed it back in the 60s. and eliminated a couple of the tunnels. Since Dad's family were in Pittsburgh, we headed that way a lot, and I vaguely remembered as a kid going through 5 tunnels, so when we went that way to visit Mrs. GeneJockey's family up in the Upper Lefthand Corner of PA, I found myself thinking, "Didn't there used to be more tunnels?"

I learned a couple years ago that I WAS RIGHT!!!! and that the abandoned sections of the turnpike and the tunnels were available for hiking/riding. Never found time to go, and being claustrophobic, I'm not sure I could stand being in a tunnel on foot or on bike for as long as it takes to traverse. (Cars are okay because the tunnels is lit and it takes a minute or two)

First accumulation in weeks here -- been snowing since 9am. Of course, we get it on piano moving day.

I've seen youtubes of that stretch of road. Yeah, I'm not even claustrophobic and rolling through Snoqualmie Tunnel alone kinda got to me a little, every drop of water hitting the ground made me jump. The first few minutes were entertaining because as I entered I saw a father and son without lights exit the tunnel and I wondered if they'd actually ridden the whole thing. Surely they'd just popped in for a few yards and did a U-turn though.

Neighbor reached out to me this morning. He recently had cancer related surgery and won’t be able to ride his bike anymore. Asked me to try and find a buyer. 58 2015 Madone 2.1. Looks brand spanking new. Asking 500.00 for it. Wife hasn’t said no yet……

That's pretty much in the territory of buy it now and deal with fallout later. You could easily flip that bike for a profit if the wife staunchly objects (though I'd consider splitting any profits with the current owner).

That sucks. It's not like you can just throw a cover over it.

We didn't just stick it in the back of a pickup truck, we hired professional piano movers.

It's a 1930s vintage Knabe six foot grand.

I know, but isn't the cold and humid weather bad for the tuning, etc.?

I didn't think you threw it on the back of the e-bike.

The movers wrapped it up in insulated blankets.

Grand pianos get the legs removed and are set on their sides for moving, so they need post-move tuning regardless of the weather.

Imagine meeting that person on a date in the summer and not finding out she was "different" until winter.

Actually, she would show her whole cards long before then. There's only so long you can conceal that level of . . . deviation.

Seems quasi-northerners aren't the only people who have trouble on the ice.
