Yes! That's the place. We only stayed in each town for 1 night. I had a stack of pictures from the trip but I think my ex took them with her when she left. She wasn't on the trip, the pics just got mixed in with her stuff, I think.

I wish I could* ride in the mornings - I'm always so envious of the folks I see out riding on my way in to work.

*of course, I could, but even a quick 20 in the morning would require being out the door by 4:45 at the latest. Just not going to happen on a regular basis.

20 is about all I do, leave at 6ish, back by 7:10 and immediately start working. I’m permanently remote so don’t need to account for commute or anything else. If I got up and left at 5:15, I could get 30 in instead of 20.

Yeah, we end up in NN multiple times per VA trip, and the area doesn't strike me as very cycling-friendly, though most of our time is spent on, or very close to, those main drags.

I assume that you'd be taking the Colonial Pkwy? I don't think that I've had a particularly close pass on the Pkwy, but it still makes me a little uneasy. Just the fact that there are no lines and some people drive on it like it's the freeway. Also, you're going to want some big, plushy tires - that pebbled surface gets tiresome. I rode it with the Domane and 28s, but still would have preferred 32s or so. I'll probably stay away from the Pkwy with the Cervelo, unless I get some new, wider wheels that'll let me run my tires at 60 psi or so.

First Watch is pretty decent. It got the impression that it was a small chain when we first started going there, but they seem to have expanded pretty rapidly. It's good, though - the stuff is fresh and prepared well. Decent options if you're looking to eat healthy(ish) or if you want the standard breakfast fare. My wife and son always want to hit it up a few times when we're there - I'm glad that they recently opened one in Williamsburg, it's cut down on some of my driving.

This made me consider my mornings. With the wife working from home, clocking in at 8am, it wouldn't be too tough for me to get out for a quick 20... but I'm anticipating some coffee fallout. The daily espresso has my wife addicted and if I don't get some caffeine in her veins, she's cranky and has trouble functioning. At the same time, I wouldn't want to wake her with a coffee before I left on my ride, either.

Maybe if I just aim to be back by 7:30 and she has her tea, first. I might just try it...

I unfortunately have a 30 minute commute to a 7am start time

It would be very difficult for me to sneak out without disturbing my wife. The bikes are all in the garage, which sits directly underneath the master bedroom, and our door opener is very loud in the room when it actuates. I could wheel one out through the front door but that involves some really annoying maneuvering due to a 90° corner leading in to a narrow hallway to the front door, and that's just asking to get tire marks on the walls.

I really can't wait to move out of this townhouse.

We both get up around 5:30 every day so I never have to worry about waking my wife. Coffee is set to auto brew starting at 5. I have a cup black before I go out on ride days. If it’s not a ride day, we do our house chores before the savages, err kids, get up

Ive gotten used to mornings, but it was rough in the beginning. I have to go before my wife wakes up otherwise I would be very limited on my ride time. Since my job keeps me away from home, when I am home all available time is family time. I don’t knock it, but sometimes it frustrating in the since that there never seems to be enough time in a day.

I make coffee the night before and drink cold right when my alarms wakes me up. I use my fitbit to that vibrations wake me and not the wife.

Amazingly, per Garmin, my last 7 days have 6 rides and 208 miles.

Of course, even though Tuesday's was my best ever, it still only did 256w normalized for 2:08 and I'm still down on power from it.

I don’t know anything about your home life and this may be way out of line- feel free to say so...

One of the biggest contributing factors to the end of my first marriage was the arguing and resentment around “not spending enough time with the family” when I had a job with a ton of travel, late nights, etc as though I was doing all of the travel for my own pleasure and not explicitly so my ex could have the picture perfect family she wanted...

not saying this is the case, but a little bit of alone time is something everyone needs

Newport News isn’t cycle friendly at all. Seems most drivers hate us, and the roads done have bike lanes or shoulders. Another reason why I ride in the morning, I do not have to worry about cars passing me.

Yes, I would be taking the colonial parkway, as long as your not on it during morning rush or afternoon rush most of the drivers are there for pleasure and are doing the speed limit. I rode it once on the CAAD with tires pumped to 115. It was a pretty rough ride but manageable. If I take the C2 i’ll lower the tires to 80.
