Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good ride tonight. I still suck. Friken bike is still clicking. Sounds like it's coming from the head set. I can't get a grip on what it exactly it is. Bumpy road + pedaling= clicking. Smooth road, no click. Bumpy road, no pedaling...no clicking.
oh ...had a flat tonight too.

Back to lockdown today. Struggling with working from home today. Feels like a Monday and I'm just not that motivated to work. It's going to be a long day.

Because of CV19? I thought NZ was about as free of the virus as anywhere on the planet, relatively speaking.

yep. one community case of the delta variety, likely to have come from Australia, with no known links to teh boarder or the managed isolation/quarantine facilities. so a full countrywide lockdown: all but essential shops and services closed or working from home. Masks mandatory on public transport and in shops. now a day later the number of community cases is 10, most who are in their 20s so wont have had a chance to be vaccinated. The epidemiologists estimate that there will be between 50 - 120 cases from this cluster. We had been lucky with 168 days without any community transmission.

I’m not sure what’s going on, but I have dead legs this week. Last night I felt like I was working super hard, but based on the numbers, I clearly wasn’t.

I’m considering a rest day today, it’ll depend on what our plans are. We need to go check in on the Marblehead house and with no kids this week, it’s a good time to go. Not going to bring my bike out there since AM roads are nuts with angry drivers stuck in traffic- so I may get some built in rest there.

I tend to get sea sick when the boat stops and starts rocking. That morning was no exception, although I did not blow chunks. I was fine once we started moving again.
I have watched that movie a dozen times, at least.

So with the new variant threat on the upswing. I was going to not address this but, I might as well ask now.
concerning mask usage. The against argument is that the virus is so small it can pass right through the mask fabric. So what is the thought process? Does a mask stop transmission or is it a feel good measure to give people confidence that something can be done to prevent the spread? a measure of something better than nothing?

The storm that was supposed to hit yesterday afternoon is still not here. They always get hung up and the meteos never seem to catch on.

You’re not necessarily trying to stop an individual virus; you’re trying to stop a droplet of saliva carrying a bunch of virus. It’s been shown effective in a few ways. It also stops cold and flu transmission.

Remember, this isn’t airborne in the technical sense; that’s why social distancing works pretty well too. Both are better than either alone.
