We are going to keep the price the same as the Swift when it was available: $899. We will probably do a discounted pre-order pricing in December or January.
We will do a frame-only option as well, but pricing isn't determined yet.

Any plans to produce the clamp on front derailleur hanger? Is the down tube the same size as the Xootr version because some existing owners might be interested in buying those as well.

The tube is not the same diameter as the original Swift because we have employed a larger seat post. We will braze on a front hanger.

The seatpost diameter looks much more narrow than the original Swift, does this translate into more seatpost flex and ride comfort? My only real complaint about the original was how stiff everything felt, with some of the bigger bumps feeling like I was punched in the undercarriage. This was with schwalbe marathons.

I am sure this was probably a ready asked but do the handle bars finally have a folding hinge like on a dahon?

The handlebars clip on and off with a quick release. Keeps everything simple, light and rigid without adding flex. It's also designed so that it takes any standard stem and bars, which is great because you can swap out different bar/stem combos depending on what characteristics or ride position one desires. For example, I prefer very low flatbars on a very low stem which gives me a rather aggressive riding position similar to riding the hoods on a racing bike. However, I could change it out. With a riser stem and different handlebars I could give the bike an upright riding position which would make it feel less aggressive and more relaxed (I'd only do that for a very special guest though, as I want my bike to perform like its name suggests - swiftly..

Also, I suspect that the seatpost diameter is extra wide to give more surface area for the two quick releases to hold onto. I think that the stiffness of the bike is one of its best attributes. This new Origami version is going to be made of steel rather than aluminium, so it might feel a bit more comfortable and compliant to you. Wider tyres could help further dampen the bumps on the ride. It's possible Xootr might still have some Thidbister seatposts in stock. None of this is my preference though. I find that my aluminium Xootr is just about right for the bike rides I love to do. It's light, fun to ride and comfortable in the saddle over long distances. But then I ride perched on my saddle over the bars like a roadie.

33.9, mm is a very large diameter seat post for better rigidity. There is a quick release that allows you to either rotate the handlebar 90 degrees to minimize the folded width, or pop the whole thing off and nest it over the frame.

We did modify the design of the rear rack so that the bike will stand upright when in its folded position. Of course you can leave the seat post in and pop off the handlebar for a more compact package.


The new rack allows the Origami Swift to stand in its folded positon.

I just looked at the old Swift spec and it shows the seat post at 34mm, our new version is the more-standard 33.9mm. Not much of a difference.

The original xootr swift had full length cable housing for the rim brake and shifter. This new one has the partial housing for the shifter (no housing under the top tube and seat stay). Does anyone consider that a negative or step back?

I don't know why anyone would. Sealed ferrules keep contaminates out. Housing stops replace compressible sections of housing with compression-less sections of bike frame. Crispness & response is improved in relation to length of housing removed. Especially with coiled brake housing...and less shifting friction is always better.

On a general level: Galvanized cables exposed to the elements are gonna look corrosion grey & swell up sooner. So, there is that. But after years of service life cables should be replaced anyway.

It's a non-issue.

We finally have production underway and will be delivering bikes in May (barring any unforeseen Covid issues). I decided to do just two colors for this initial run: the green you see above, and a medium grey metallic for the old farts. Both will have black rims in lieu of the color-matched option since that didn't seem to go over very well with the members of the forum. We did add bottle mounts to the top tube as well as on the handlebar mast (thanks to the forum for this suggestion). Thanks also to the forum for the reminder about taller riders; we will have a taller handlebar mount and longer stem for folks over 6'0". As of last night the bike is available on our site at a preorder discount (this will end either when we have enough orders or we get close to May).

Thank you all for your input, suggestions, scrutiny, and honesty. Just because we may not have employed one of your suggestions doesn't mean that we have dismissed it either. This is just the beginning, we have the option to make make just about any variation you can think of as we proceed.

With the wider tires, larger gear set and chainring, rear rack, and folding pedals we are at 28 lbs. The weight-weenies out there are welcome to remove the rack, use skinny tires, etc. but there is a definitely a trade off in terms of performance and convenience.

I wonder why you didn't go for the FSIR (Litepro Leo) design instead. Similar double-clamp 33.9mm seat-post design, but with a quicker, if not smaller fold. The FSIR's have been out for several years now and the design has stood the test of time.

Because people wanted the Swift resurrected, that's why. The ride quality is the most like a full size bike of any folder I've ever been on. With 20" wheels of course. There's Swift fans all over the world.
